Björk and Sigur Ros Team Up To Play Free Concert

Posted about 1 year ago

The Icelandic artist Björk and Sigur Ros will play a free gig in Reykjavik, Iceland on June 28.

The gig is being organized to raise awareness of environmental issues in the artists' home country. The exact location of the show will be announced nearer the time.

??Bjork??

A message from Björk on the Björk.com reads: "Neither me or look at ourselves as experts on nature, or as politicians, but we do travel a lot and we believe we know a lot about what image Iceland has abroad, and that we are far behind [other countries in the environmental stakes].

"I spent two months in South America, and there I saw the poor doing recycling. We can't be 30 years behind, we need to work together on this and preferably we should be leading the way.

Sigur Ros

"Too often battles being fought for nature turn into something negative and into mudslinging. We will not go that way, we are not saying that this and that is forbidden, we are rather asking, 'What about all these other possibilities?'.

"The 21st Century is not going to be another oil century but rather a century where we need to recycle, think green and design both power plants and our surroundings in harmony with nature."

  3. mollifire says how ironic, saying you know about environmental issues because you travel a lot. (travel, especially by air, is the most environmentally destructive thing the average person does in life.)

  4. gerekriss says Bjork might know about environment but what she had no idea is she could not play concert in Thailand anymore after she attacked reporter.

  5. Lighter Dusk says My goodness...isn't anyone going to mention the musical mash-up/potential disaster we have going on here. I mean, Bjork has enough "sounds like a dying goose" sound to bum out even Sigur Ros...and especially their fans. ...of course, I could be wrong...maybe they'll join up on a song that will blow my mind... ...but I doubt it. -Dusk

  7. Doomsayer2001 says Oh the irony... Iceland: Officers forced to kill polar bear, police say June 5, 2008 LJUBLJANA CAIRO BRAMPTON, Ontario REYKJAVIK - Police in Iceland say they fatally shot the first polar bear seen in the country in 20 years after the animal threatened people. Authorities say police in northern Iceland shot the bear Tuesday after determining that the drugs used to sedate the animal were unavailable and that a gun that could be used to fire them was elsewhere in the country. It's not known how the polar bear reached Iceland; it may have come on an iceberg or swam. Scientists blame global warming for the disappearance of sea ice — vital for the bears' survival.
