1,900 Polish Guitarist Can't Go Wrong

Over 1900 Polish guitarists gathered at the Wroclaw market square in southern Poland to play "Hey Joe", a Jimi Hendrix classic, during the sixth annual "Thanks Jimi Festival".Event organizer guitarist and music teacher Leszek Cichowski says the festival â€˜was just an idea ten years ago during a small music workshop in the town of Zakiew in southwestern Poland where 16 guitar players performed together: â€˜Last year we had in the market square in Wroclaw 1881 guitar players. So we beat our world record . We had 1951 guitar players and again itâ€™s the best in the world.â€™Leszek says that putting together such a musical extravaganza is a real exercise in logistics: "All guitar players should be in one place and they should play one song together which is not shorter than five minutes. We performed 'Hey Joe' as a record song.

Spike says Sturgell, where do you find these stories? Imagine being there seeing such an odd event up close. It reminds me of being in Mexico City almost thirty years ago and going to a square one evening which was filled with probably more than fifty mariachi bands wandering around separately singing different mariachi songs for donations. Ohm51 says Definitely one of my all time favorite songs, it just doesn't get better than this. Jimi's soulful playing, the weird but cool climbing bridge, and freaking Mitch Mitchell just smolders on drums. It should be noted that the otherworld background vocals holding those really long chord's helps to drive the song and adds greatly to its emotional depth ... whomevers' idea that was ... well, that was a stroke of genius. About the 1900 Polish Guitars, I'm wondering if that was actually plugged-in, or unplugged? That would be quite a feat if plugged in, so I'm guessing this was most likely unplugged. I liked the YoungBloods thing too Spike, mainly due to Jesse Colin Young's vocal timbre, that dude just had a greatly emotive voice. Listening just to the backing tracks sans vocals though, this one sounds quite dated, while Hey Joe ... still sounds expertly played and relevant.

Spike says Ohm51, it's funny how Hendrix forty years later runs no risk of being filed in the oldies section. On the other hand, it's funny (to my ears at least) how much recent indie-rock sounds as if it could have been recorded in the late sixties.
