If Viking Metal Wont Reach The Kids What Will?

Posted almost 4 years ago
Norwegian Viking metal band Helheim celebrated the release of its brand new studio album, ??Kaoskult??, by performing at a public kindergarten earlier today (Monday, April 21).The group reportedly played acoustic versions of two songs from the CD — "Det Norrøne Alter" and "Svart Seid" — at Klosteret Barnehage. In addition, the band also told tales from Norse mythology, which has been of great inspiration for Helheim since the band was formed in 1992.??Bizarre choice of venue.?? "Mer Her{More Here in Norwegian}":CH??correction: CREEPY choice of venue??[CH]http://www.nrk.no/nyheter/distrikt/hordaland/1.5446718

  11. dermahrk says One of the bands I was in, in my younger days, played for an elementary school audience at the school where my sister was teaching. They are a very appreciative and energetic audience, making the audience at some of the clubs we played in poor by comparison.

  12. Scotch says contrabandwidth - hey, thanks, man. earthman - Normally, I would say something cheesy like, "I'm here all week! Don't forget to tip your waitress," but I'm leaving for almost three weeks tomorrow. dermahrk - I also had a band back in the day, and kids at school were the most receptive for us, too. I always figured they were just happy to have something different for lunch. You'd think paying customers at a club might try a little harder. I guess if they're paying, they don't want to meet you halfway.

  16. Scotch says I started with alto sax when I was about 9-10, then picked up the guitar, went to bass, then quit altogether, went to piano for a while, then back to guitar... and I'm mostly on hiatus again. I think I want to make a real go at drums, though.

  20. missedexit says I'm all for getting back to your roots, and I happen to identify/love Viking/Black metal, so I don't see any problem w/ them playing to young kids, as long as they stay away from advocating Church burnings! As I listen to a live version of Genesis' "Supper's Ready (Apocalypse in 9/8)!" And there's always a place for Cookie Monster singing!

  23. mollifire says Other metal bands have done this too. especially in California. maybe it has something to do with kids seeing scary metal dudes in broad daylight? like when parents turn on the lights to show you that the scary monsters aren't there? i seem to remember Nile doing something similar, but my memory could be wrong. I'll try to look it up and come back here...
