Guns N' Roses Finish 'Chinese Democracy' Album

Posted about 1 year ago
They said it would never happen, but apparently it has.According to NME, Guns N' Roses have finally finished their long awaited ??Chinese Democracy??, the album that Axl Rose has been working on for the past 14 years. Was it "Dr. Pepper's prodding":CH that finally got Axl and the boys to finished what they started 14 years ago?Therockradio.com reports that Geffen Records, the band's record label, have confirmed they have received a finished copy of the album, and are currently haggling over money and rights issues with Rose. The album is reported to have cost in excess of $13 million to produce.??Axl Rose with a Kangaroo??
Somehow, I just don't believe it. Regardless, did they wait too long? Is the album going to sell? Are YOU interested and more importantly, would you even buy it?

  7. starspring says There are always a few bands that put out one tremendously well selling/received album and then drop out of site for several years at a stretch to do whatever it is bands do in the meantime. In fact they are not the only band or artist with such wide gaps. Kate Bush, Kraftwerk, Stereo MCs, The Blue Nile, and Portishead all have 7+ year album gaps in the back catalog. Rumours swirled around them all about new albums over the years. The difference with Chinese Democracy is that its been so stop-start. 14 years? Sorry that's not an album-its a compilation. It may have one name but with such a large span of time(and if the rumors over the years are true-several jags of abandoned recording sessions in the mix) its hardly the work of a cohesive band. It is the long-gestating work one one man-Axel Rose. Guns & Roses is now clearly just a name he trades under.

But are the same number of record buyers who waited all night to buy albums like Use Your Illusion I and II going to lap this up in the same numbers or is it going to become some sort of carnival sideshow curio-destined to be more famous for what it is than the actual music it contains? They always were an album band, so there is a lot riding on this. Its doubtful to do that well in recouping costs if its already this expensive but you never know-Dr. Pepper is helping out-that should tell you something right there. He's more interesting now for his weird habits and changed appearance from plastic surgery than he is for making music. It will be interesting to see if this can somehow return him to a former relevance in music. I was never a huge fan but I will probably listen to the tracks on the internet. just to hear what 14 years of compressed ideas on a single project sounds like!

  17. GrittyMcScruff says I had heard this a while ago. I'll believe it when I see it. 14 years is a bit tough to explain, but he hasn't dissapointed me with his recorded material yet. One of the best songwriters of my time. I'd rather see the original lineup get back together. I'm mostly concerned about his voice. It sounds shot in some of the demos floating around. In the end, a shitty gnr record still has the potential to be the best album to come out in 15 or so years.

  20. Scotch says heh. A bad poem for what I suspect will be a bad album that may or may not come out. The fanboys will lap it up in great numbers from the get-go. And once people realize that it manages to both suck and blow, Sales will drop like snow.

  26. Lamicus says I predict an album encompassing every major rock genre change from the last 14 years, from grunge to neo-new wave, to sweeping Nickelballads. This was dead to me the second he fired Buckethead :(

  27. benjimon says Well, I guess I am in the minority from all the comments above me but I was a big GNR fan back in the day. Not so sure I will be a big GNR fan with Axl being the only original member left but from the few tracks that were leaked on the internet a few years ago (IRS, Better, There was a Time, The Blues) it sounded pretty good. I will still believe the album is done when I hear it though...
