Nelly Wants The Boss!

Posted about 1 year ago
Nelly wants to work with the Boss, but it turns out the Boss ain't having it. The rapper's designs to collaborate with legendary rocker are off to a rocky start.Nelly Explained:"I was really trying to get The Boss, but The Boss is all over the world," Nelly told The Associated Press on the orange carpet at Saturday's Kids Choice Awards. "It didn't really work out. I know he's interested in doing it. And I'm interested in doing it."Nelly was mum on what a duet with Springsteen would've sounded like, but the "Hot In Herre" rapper is hopeful he'll be able to work with the "Born to Run" rock and roller later this year.??Nelly??Being a Grammy Award winner and one of the best-selling rappers of all-time, with over forty million albums sold worldwide, just isn't impressive enough to get the Boss out of his chair, apparently."We still might get a chance to get it off. We're saving it. We might repackage it for the holidays," Nelly explained optimistically. ??Brass Knuckles??, Nelly's fifth album set for release in June, won't be lacking in names. Akon, Ashanti, Chuck D, Ciara, LL Cool J, Lil Wayne, Pimp C, Snoop Dogg and T.I. are all set to appear. "Party People," the first single off the album, features Fergie. For more info on Nelly's new album check out his official site:http://www.nelly.net/

  2. GrittyMcScruff says Oh man, that has terrible written all over it. Nelly should stick to making his own horrible CDs and stop trying to drag others onto his tragedies of albums.

  4. annieander says I think this should be the start of a new thread...What are the strangest duet pairings? Both actual or imagined. I would think this pair would top the list.

  5. starspring says Enough with the rappers getting everyone and their uncle to guest on albums. At least when someone like Elton John or Sinatra does this they have the sense to call the album "duets". I'm hoping Springsteen would have the sense to realize its just another crass young rapper hoping some of the Boss shine will rub off in terms of album sales.

  6. MrFrost says starspring, I think hip hop is a collaborative genre by nature. Going back to the days where it was just a group of guys in a circle freestyling, playing off each others rhymes. but.... with that said I have no interest in hearing Nelly with Bruce Springsteen. I once heard a blogger call Nelly's song with Tim McGraw "an abortion of a track"... which is harsh, but funny and true.

  7. starspring says Yeah, but you can't compare a old school crew Like Grandmaster flash or Sugar Hill Gang(which were unified groups, though each member certainly had a distinct personality in the group) with heaps of individual rappers all guesting on each other's albums-there are still crews that mingle pools but not like back in the 1980s. I agree, the guesting things isn't new, but the race to have the "most" cool collaborators does seem to be a trend-leading to nearly ridiculous pairings like Nelly and the Boss. it rarely seems about combining the artistry of the individual rappers and more about the marketing angle and how they can cross sell to both respective audiences.

  8. Scotch says It's hard for me to take seriously anyone who wears a grille. My apologies to anyone here who actually wears one and expects folks to take them seriously. Aside from that, I've never liked Nelly, and I can't imagine a worse pairing than those two. I can think of hundreds of duets (living and dead) just as bad, but not worse.

  10. TroyPowers says So, who is this Boss guy you're all speaking of? Is he a new artist? Nah. I'm kidding. Or am I? I agree that hip-hop is a collaborative genre. Honestly, back when I used to actually go to record stores at the mall (seems like ages ago), if I was considering buying a CD, the first thing I'd do, would be to flip it over to see who else was on it. I guess it's just a hip-hop thing. You just want to hear what certain people sound like together. It's like...I like apples. I like peanut butter. I LOVE apples and peanut butter. You just wonder what different flavors will be like. Or, maybe you just love certain artists together (Redman & Method Man, anyone?). That being said...I'd rather swim through a boiling vat of wildebeest urine than hear a collaboration between Nelly and The Boss.

  11. Scotch says There you go, Troy. Redman/Method Man = burgers/fries. Nelly/Springsteen = picked pig feet/anything else.
