MORE Reports Of Violence Against 'Emos' Coming In From Mexico
"As previously reported":PP a few weeks ago, reports of a clash between several hundred Mexican heavy metal, "skate punk" and alternative rock fans against a group of "emos" in the in the center of Querétaro, Mexico (who regularly use the city center as a gathering place). The resulting violence left four people injured and 28 persons were arrested (22 of them minors) when more than a thousand youths battled in the area of Jardín Guerrero, Plaza de Armas (front of the Government Palace). It's happening again.
LA Weekly's Daniel Hernandez reports on his blog Intersections that a bizarre wave of mob emo-bashings ("emos" are followers of the "emo" subculture, which is short for "emotional") is sweeping across Mexico. According to Hernandez, "The movement is being generated on message boards and social networking sites by non-emo youth who highly dislike like the emo look and attitude. The spark came first in Queretaro on March 7. An estimated 800 young people poured into the city's Centro Historico hunting for emos to beat the crap out of. They found some. The next weekend it spread to Mexico City, where emos faced off against punks and rockabillies at the Glorieta de Insurgents, the epicenter of emo social space in the capital. There's also been reports of anti-emo violence in Durango, Colima, and elsewhere."To read more of Daniel Hernandez report"CLICK HERE":HRThe following videos are from Spanish speaking Mexican news:An update on how the Mexican emos are fighting back can be found "HERE":FB[FB]http://danielhernandez.typepad.com/daniel_hernandez/2008/03/the-emos-in-mex.html[HR]http://danielhernandez.typepad.com/daniel_hernandez/2008/03/violence-agains.html[PR]http://mog.com/Sturgell/blog_post/149771
