Arctic Monkeys & Enemy Rivalry Heating Up For NME Awards; Nominee Wrap Up

Posted about 4 years ago
The Arctic Monkeys look set to dominate next month’s NME awards, with a record seven nominations for: Best Band, Best Live, Best Album, Best Track (Fluorescent Adolescent), Best Video (Teddy Picker) and Best Album Artwork categories. Frontman Alex Turner is also in the running for Best Dressed Male. But The Enemy don’t think they deserve it. The band from Coventry compete with the Arctics in the Best Album category, and they’ve been getting in early in a war of words:“Certain Aspects of their music on the second album, and certain aspects of their personas in the press, are just dull.”So says frontman Tom Clarke, although he still doesn’t fancy The Enemy’s chances competing against them:“They’ll probably win it, ‘cause they win everything – but whether they deserve to win is another thing.”"I was bitterly disappointed when I got the second album" he said.??Tom Clarke??Although he admits they didn’t always think the Arctic Monkeys were boring:“That first video was out – You Look Good On The Dance Floor – y’know I looked at that and I thought: ‘There’s a bunch of working class lads from a proper town playing a tune like they mean it.’”“It was quality and I went out and bought the first album and I thought it was top – some really good songs on there.”“And then I was bitterly disappointed when I got the second – just dull.”The 2008 NME Awards take place at London's IndigO2, within the 02 Arena, on 28 February. 13. Bartleby says I love it when NME creates pre-show rivalry just to pimp up their gigs... They must have Don King as their PR consultant.

  14. Sturgell says but NME never murdered anyone.. right?

  15. Bartleby says Seriously, I think that the press relish in band rivalries (did it start with Beatles v Rolling Stones even though they were mates?) -- It sells more copies, I guess. It wouldn't surprise if they killed someone to boost circulation.
