The Arctic Monkeys look set to dominate next month’s NME awards, with a record seven nominations for: Best Band, Best Live, Best Album, Best Track (Fluorescent Adolescent), Best Video (Teddy Picker) and Best Album Artwork categories. Frontman Alex Turner is also in the running for Best Dressed Male. But The Enemy don’t think they deserve it. The band from Coventry compete with the Arctics in the Best Album category, and they’ve been getting in early in a war of words:“Certain Aspects of their music on the second album, and certain aspects of their personas in the press, are just dull.â€So says frontman Tom Clarke, although he still doesn’t fancy The Enemy’s chances competing against them:“They’ll probably win it, ‘cause they win everything – but whether they deserve to win is another thing.â€"I was bitterly disappointed when I got the second album" he said.
??Tom Clarke??Although he admits they didn’t always think the Arctic Monkeys were boring:“That first video was out – You Look Good On The Dance Floor – y’know I looked at that and I thought: ‘There’s a bunch of working class lads from a proper town playing a tune like they mean it.’â€â€œIt was quality and I went out and bought the first album and I thought it was top – some really good songs on there.â€â€œAnd then I was bitterly disappointed when I got the second – just dull.â€The 2008 NME Awards take place at London's IndigO2, within the 02 Arena, on 28 February.
