Ringo Walks Off The Set On TV Show; Wont Compromise His Songs

Posted about 1 year ago
It seemed like a reasonable request to the staff at the Regis and Kelly show, but apparently to Ringo Starr is was just plain out insulting. Yesterday (Jan. 22) Ringo Star, one of the most famous musicians in the world walked off the set of the "Regis and Kelly" show after he was asked to butcher the song he was set to perform for time constraints. The Beatles' former drummer was appearing on the show to promote his new album ??Liverpool 8??(EMI) and was scheduled to perform the title song with former Eurythmics star Dave Stewart. When Starr found out that he would have to abbreviate the song(which is 4:49) and trim the performance down to 2 1/2 minutes or less, he refused.Starr's publicist, Elizabeth Freund, told the Associated Press that the incident occurred because of a miscommunication between her and the show's musical director. She apparently didn't realize that the song would need to be shortened."We offered to cut back our chat time and asked them to fade or go to commercial. They were not willing to do that and Ringo was not willing to cut it further, so without a compromise we were not able to stay," Freund said in a statement.Liverpool 8 was released January 14."More Here":CH[CH]http://www.nme.com/news/nme/33847

  2. Vtshome says I haven't heard the song but good for Ringo. Sometimes the P.R. isn't worth chopping up your music so that an insurance, drug or gas company can sell us something we can't afford anyway. I personally don't watch commercial TV unless it's sports or someother major event because I don't want to have constant sales pitches.

  7. FluxCapacitor says Liverpool 8 is a very personal, autobiographical song about Ringo's time in The Beatles.

  8. dermahrk says I liked Dave Stewart's comment on it: "Four minutes (3 minutes and 40 seconds, actually) seemed like an appropriate amount of time for a former Beatle. Mr. Gelman apparently felt Ringo's musical legacy should take a back seat to additional banter about the size of Ms. (Kelly) Ripa's derriere" Dave is the co-producer of Liverpool 8 and was going to perform on the show with Ringo.

  10. Jammy Jeff says lol at deadman's comment! He's turning into a miserable old git (not Deadman...Ringo). I heard a news conference the other day where he turned up to promote Liverpool's capital of Culture award for 2008. He was pretty miserable then as well, and what kept ringing in my head was "Would he have been there if he hadn't got an album to promote ?"

  12. nicki says So he comes off as grumpy - big whoop. Expecting only a 2-1/2 minute performance, from anyone, is a touch ridiculous...never mind trying to chop down a 4+ minute song. This is about the mental flatulence of the publicist and producer, not Ringo's mood. Nyerf.

  13. Mackenzie P says Sounds like miscommunication was the problem. I wonder if he would have come at all if he had been told off teh bat he only had 2min to perform.

  14. wdog says I say, good for Ringo.. there's something a little refreshing about some of the 60's throwbacks who, maybe because they don't need to - don't take the bullshit that the media demands of them.. ..and anytime someone says, "f*ck you" to Regis, well, that get's a thumbs up in my books.. now, if he could only get on Larry King and tell him to stuff it, I'd have never-ending respect for the "No No Song" jockey :)

  17. Sturgell says Vtshome- most people can't afford subscription tv and have to watch crap like Regis. Think of how many people watch his damn show-millions! Ringo should have went on, bring a little culture to an otherwise black hole of taste. Ringo's letting us all down. Sam- Dude! The Beatles have been big in Japan 長い時間. When I was living there I noticed they also love Meg Ryan, the Frenchman from the movie "The Professional," and Pepsi man. I imagine Ringo's agent said something like "Good for you! Great move! Stick it to the man, your still young hip and fighting the good fight. Your fans are going to appreciate you more for this." while the idiot assistant to the producer or whoever over at the Regis show-the guywho told Ringo that he HAD to play under such strict time constraints(wtf? Morons! Why not just let him play and edit it later?)- is getting the ax right now. who, I bet, is the same guy who told Regis "this was really Ozzy."

  18. earthman says I dont believe Ringo was letting his fans down, his fans must appreciate his integrity and the TV media have way too much power over way to much information

  19. earthman says Good on Ringo, its not always about the money and if it was he most likely doesnt need it

Either she's a good liar or she should have known better.

  24. Konkrypton says Jo, she's a publicist, of course she's a liar! Ringo, of the 4 original Beatles, was always the most impressed with himself. I saw him on Craig Ferguson's Late Late Show a while back, and Ringo was an insufferable egotist. It was nauseating to watch. After all of the 4 he had the least amount of talent, in my book.

  27. ted baylis says Regis should be flattered. Ring also told his 3 band mates from Liverpool to "F Off" when he walked out of the White Album Sessions, only to return to a George Harrison inspired drum kit draped in flowers
