WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Band Of Horses To Wal-Mart: "Keep Your Money"

Posted over 2 years ago
Recently, Band Of Horses were approached by Wal-Mart for a licensing deal which would incorporate one of their songs in what would be a net-based ad campaign for the department store chain. But fans found out about the deal and were furious."My personal stance," band-leader Ben Bridwell wrote in response to the furious fans, "is that once that music is recorded and released to the world then I don't really care where it goes."But then there was a change of heart.??Ben Bridwell??"I called my family, talked to my girlfriend about it, talked to the guys in the band and decided it's no big deal," Bridwell said of the initial decision to license the song. "We tested it with that Web site thing that I figured nobody would really even see. But in the Internet age, you can't do anything without someone catching wind of it.""Once I saw our fans were let down by it, I nixed the TV commercial, and said, 'You know what, this isn't for me. Keep your money.'"For more on the averted scandal, "CLICK HERE":CH[CH]http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/article/news/47159-band-of-horses-turn-down-wal-mart-tv-ad

  1. scotfree says Good for them. Walmart gets their way with far too much as it is. Nice to see someone shove it in their face!

  2. fairportfan says OTOH, maybe it's just pragmatism and self-interest - the WalMart deal is just one (if a big one) payday, but if those pissed-off fans walk, there are *no* more paydays in the future...

  6. Lady Miss Ian says Good for them turning it down. I'm sure they were under a lot of pressure from their label and distributor to do it. Look for them to get dropped from their label in the near future, unless they have tremendous sales without WalMart. Which, I can't see a lot of BOH fans going to Walmart to buy music anyway. Walkingthecow - Arcade Fire and Target? I wouldn't doubt it. I'm sure Target's approached them.

Underoath records the new Toy 'R' us commercial, and brutally destroys $10,000's worth of star wars toys and the limited editions of the thundercats replicas..... Good for HORSES, to come to their senses.... Jack's appreciation of a changed mind, Tyler Durden
