Devendra Banhart's artwork is currently being displayed at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) through February 24, 2008.Banhart's artwork will be displayed alongside works from renowned Swiss painter Paul Klee in 'Abstract Rhythms: Paul Klee and Devendra Banhart'.The ??new weird American?? created several drawings as an accompaniment for his recent album ??Smokey Rolls Down Thunder Canyon?? which was released September 25 via XL Recordings. Banhart's drawings are featured in a 64-page book included in the deluxe limited edition of the album.
Devendra Banhart's "Banded King Snake and Thunder Maiden"(To see more art from the exhibit, "CLICK HERE":CH)The exhibit also includes 10 additional drawings and photos of Banhart with his friends and family who contributed to the album.Banhart said that the drawings and the album spring from a personal narrative developed around a fictional protagonist named Smokey, who is made up of character traits from several mythological figures.Also,The name change continues with Devendra and his backing band. As of September 24th, when they performed at University of Vermont, they were calling themselves Celestial Pesto. On September 29th in Philly, they were back to being called Spiritual Boner. And on October 1st in Washington D.C. Banhart announced that they were called Spiritual Bonerz, but the "z" is silent.
