Elton John Has Questionable Photo Collection Removed

Posted over 2 years ago
A British gallery that turned over a photo of two naked girls to police amid child pornography concerns has closed the exhibition at the request of Elton John, who owns the collection."As previously reported,":PR the photograph belonging to Elton was seized September 20th from the gallery after a complaint was filed with the police by the gallery’s management. The image in question, "Klara and Edda belly-dancing" (1998) is one of 149 images comprising the "Thanksgiving" installation by renowned US photographer Nan Goldin. It depicts two naked young girls."After the removal of one image from the series it was no longer possible for BALTIC to exhibit the collection of works as the artist intended," the gallery said in a statement. "Therefore BALTIC is sympathetic to Sir Elton John's request and supportive of the decision."A statement from Jane Jackson, curator of the Elton John Photographic Collection, that was posted Monday on the 60-year-old rocker's Web site said:"We have made arrangements to close the 'Thanksgiving' installation at the BALTIC with immediate effect. It was always intended that the installation be exhibited as a whole, and not on a piecemeal basis, and our decision has been made with regard to the artistic integrity of the work and the artist.""YAHOO!":CH[CH]http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20071001/ap_en_mu/people_elton_john[PR]http://mog.com/Sturgell/blog_post/113922

  8. Slicing says i always wanted to go the that street fair...unfortunately i have neither he money nor the condoms for such a trip hehehe. anyway, naked children? i think it's strange that if these kids were in a 17th century painting or something then it would be 'high art' but since it's a photgraphic series, oh it's pedophilic imagery- pedophile get off on kids in general.

  9. Shud33 says I am not sure what to think really. But Slicing has a point. It would be considered "high art" if it was th 17th century. Who knows..this is one of those subjects that you could debate, although, people will think what they want regardless of the facts. Is the street fair anything like Bay to Breakers? If so I am there next time. That shit is entertaining as hell!
