WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Hear Ye, it's Harumi!

Here's a weird one. This is the first track off of Harumi's self titled debut (and as far as I know only) recording. Believe it or not this was released on Verve in 1968 (ok, that part's believable...). Though it might have been a half-assed attempt to enter the psychedelic sales realm, the project actually worked, at least artistically speaking. The album is a masterpiece of baroque psychedelia as viewed by a very spaced-out Japanese fellow. Think Love's "Forever Changes" but with more acid. It's out on CD and the vinyl isn't too expensive (especially considering that it's a double LP). Well worth snagging, the two monster length tracks at the end are extremely clarifying to understanding where this guy comes from (i.e. what drugs are involved...). This one's the first track, "Talk About It."

  1. ivylander says I can't believe it - I actually owned this album way back in the Pleistocene Era. You've brought back some very weird memories, for which I am oddly grateful.

  2. caliscrnwrtr says i've never been much of a psychedelic fan (because trust me, dropping acid and listening to psychedelic is not a pleasant experience...not only does the ceiling talk to you, but it does a jig as well...very discombobulating), but this song is kinda fun.

  3. ivylander says SN, am I right in the recollection that Tom Wilson produced this?

  4. StudioNone says You got it Ivylander. Well played. You gotta assume that's part of what makes this as good as it is rather than some tepid psych-pop slush, don't you think? The arrangements are just so full and well placed!

  5. ivylander says I would love to hear the rest of it again. This audio stirred up some potent memories, but it has been very close to 40 years since I last heard the whole thing. Now, there's a truly terrifying thought....

  6. soulrocket says never heard of this band before. im very picky when psychedelic music is involved but this got me really interested. i will try to listen to the album. caliscrnwrtr - when the ceiling talks to you it must have a good reason to do that... or so it thinks. ivy, you still need to collect 40 years more of future memories, maybe 20 years from now we will be mega-posting on FLOG about how cool MOG was.
