I was introduced to Bertie Blackman by my boyfriend on the first sleep over we had almost a year ago and I fell in love... with Bertie!

Her first album is jazzy and sweet but her most recent 'Black' has a harder more rock edge to it. She is a five foot nothing platinum blonde dynamo with so much energy in her live gigs.

This is her myspace http://www.myspace.com/bertieblackman

the band lists their influences as Radiohead, The Clash, Blondie, Johnny Cash, PJ Harvey, The White Stripes, Queens of the Stone Age, The Beatles, Alan Parsons Project, The Sex Pistols, death cab for cutie, nirvana

I would recommend you have a listen and see what you think.

Why don't you love me? Cause I watch TV just like everyone And you, read magazines like everyone And truth seems to be defined in every pop song And love, I know it hurts you, and it sure hurts me too

I'm real glad your posting on bands from around your way. Australia doesn't seem to be well represented here. I can only think of two others.

She's got a great voice, thanks again!

Down Under, what does that mean? Isn't Australia over by Germany?

Artist: Album: Songs To No One 1991-1992 Track: Satisfied Mind (Live)

I'm posting this because we have lost a very important MOGger in a man who goes by the name of this Jeff Buckley and Gary Lucas song.

When I first joined MOG almost immediately Blair added me to his trusted MOGs, I guess because I also go by the name of a Jeff Buckley song 'Strawberry Street'

I felt welcomed into this community by him and I never got a chance to thank him for building my confidence in MOG and feeling a part of the community, so I'm dedicating this post to him.

It was through him that I found other members who have since introduced me to some great music and a sense of belonging.

So I hope you all enjoy the song behind the man, you may have heard it before but take a listen, it's a great song.

peace xx

This is a great post and a great song.

Jeff Buckley had a knack for choosing great songs to pay homage to and make his own. And in a way, it's very apt that you picked this song to dedicate to SatisfiedMind614... It's never occurred to me that the man his MOG friends call Blair chose his log-in name in reference to this country song written by Red Hayes and Jack Rhodes.

Here's Johnny Cash take on this Porter Wagoner's classic
And here's the first "official" cut of 1954
These go out to you and SatisfiedMind614 wherever he is.

Artist: Album: Chocolate and Cigarettes Track:

Here is Julia singing, she sounds much grittier in real life and I just love the defined instruments in this, sounds like a live recording.

Julia's got a jazzy voice which is not so common for an indie band. She reminds me of a young Dinah Washington to some extent.

Their website is quite a visual experience. Thanks for sharing your find.
