Blind Melon Concert 10/13/2007

Posted over 2 years ago
So I just got home from Columbus, OH. This night has probably been the GREATEST night of my life!!! Tonight Ashley and I went to the Blind Melon concert at The Basement, and it was GLORIOUS!!! I cant really put into words how fantastic the show was but I will do the best I can.The show started out with Ashley and I standing outside in line with some crazy, awesome people for over an hour. It was pretty lame to wait but my energy was mounting so that just made it all the worse. When we were finally able to get inside Ashley went to scout out where the Merch. table was while I snagged some FRONT ROW spots for us to jam out at. Ashley and I took turns to buy shirts at the Merch table and it was it was funny because without seeing the shirt Ashley perchased, I got the same one...twin thinking again. The opening band kicked complete ass!!! Dusty Rhodes and the River Band is touring along side Blind Melon for this tour. Originally from California, if you like folk/classic rock/progressive jam music: check them out, they were awesome! Dusty Rhodes and the River Band pumped the audience up for the show, introducing everyone to their fresh tunes and bringing old classics by old loves(The Band-The Weight) back to life.Blind Melon strolled onto stage as Galaxy rang through the speakers. Electrifying from the very first moment, all five melon men swept the audience back to the 90's glory. Second song, just as fantistic as the first, Travis tore the set list up off of the ground infront of him and held it out for some lucky fan to have. That lucky fan was me! I snagged it with cat-like agility and was instantly pumped for the rest of the night, but then it got even better.A quarter of the way into the tunes, Travis stopped the audience to tell us how much being in Columbus ment to him. How it took a lot of time for him to decide on joinging the band through his love for their music back in the 90's to believing that he could never fulfill Shannon's shoes. Then Travis introduced Shannon Hoon's mother and she just looked at the audience and said, "Hasn't 12 years been long enough?" Still on a musical high from the energy by the band and Travis Warren crowd surfing skills, I thought that the night couldnt get any better! I was singing my heart out to almost every song played and dancing as much as possible, in my limited space. Then Sleepy House started up and Travis came up and grabbed me around the shoulder and let me sing on his mic! I just closed my eyes and sang my heart out as best I could for the entire first verse! Once Travis stood up, I looked to my sister and she knew! She knew I was freaking out inside at my opportunity. Blind Melon continued to rock out and I continued to sing and dance. At the end of the cocnert, Blind Melon continued to play one encore of three of the best songs from each of the three previous albums: Mouthful of Cavities, Pusher and, the forever loved, No Rain. The perfect evening to the best fucking concert I have seen
