I love this new CD and the track "Just Another Rider." Gregg's voice is in perfect gravely form and contributes deep soul to each track. What I find so encouraging is that so many artists are returning to the blues roots with recent releases like Steve Miller's Bingo and Tom Petty's Mojo.
The Joker is no joke when it comes to the Blues. His new album, Bingo, is just an awesome collection of grindin', drivin' compelling blues. His covers of "Come On" and "Rock Me Baby" are unique with Steve Miller guitar touches. This album typifies what I love about the Blues. The I-IV-V is foundational but an artist grafts their personality to that and comes up with something special. That's w
Dear MOG: Thanks for highlighting Tom Petty's new release "Mojo." I've never really been a big fan of Tom Petty and so would never have discovered it otherwise. But this is just an awesome album. Lot's of diversity in tone and style. Very cool. Thanks again!
Jeff Beck never ceases to amaze me. The Master has produced another masterful album in Emotion & Commotion. IMHO, the album is on par with, and in some instances, surpasses, two of his greatest works of art -- "Blow by Blow" and "Wired." It's nice to hear Mr. Beck dust off his wah-wah pedal for Hammerheads. The mix on the song is awesome. The bass makes my heart pound and melodic lead pierces
Can't think of one of Jeff' Beck's albums where he doesn't prove his mastery. But "Performing This Week: Live At Ronnie Scott's" just reconfirms that he is one of the greatest and most innovative guitarists on the rock scene.
Shane Henry's Deliverance album blew me away. I can't believe someone so young can produce such a mature and innovative guitar sound. My immediate reaction was this guy sounds a lot like Stevie Ray Vaughn (SRV) or Kenny Wayne Sheperd (KWS). But clearly Shane (NMI*) Henry has other influences and unique fretboard licks that make him stand out as one of the best budding artists on the blues scene
Johnny Hawthorn's screaming guitar and diverse songwriting make this one of my favorite indie artist CDs. Johnny is an LA-based musician with superlative playing and songwriting skills. His roots are blues and rock, with clear SRV and Clapton influences in his leads. But his talented guitar playing, coupled with his remarkable songwriting abilities reflect a huge musical range. You'll hear trad
I first discovered Harper several years ago on a sampler CD from Blues Review magazine (how quaint that form of discovery will seem in a couple years with MOG now online). It was a cut from his Way Down Deep Inside CD. I also saw him perform a couple times at the great Hermosa Beach, CA juke joint, Cafe Boogaloo and I was immediately hooked. Harper's fusion of the harmonica and didgeridoo into
