Kanno Day: "Prophet"

Time for another Yoko Kanno Day post and this one is quite different from Tuesday. Today's track is from the anime series Arjuna. This is a case where Kanno's music is better than the show it was written for. Into The Another World, the first Arjuna soundtrack, is one of Kanno's best albums. It's a combination of great pop with some unusual music that kind of defies description. There are certainly world music influences here with the chants, percussion, and other elements on this album. However, when you have some songs that are sung in an unrecognizable language, you know you are in some uncharted territory.The music from this album is something that you'll either love or hate.I had a hard time picking a song to use but I ended up choosing “Prophet.” It's a good example of what I referred to above.Arjuna: Into The Another World is one of the few Yoko Kanno soundtracks available domestically.
