I'm a big fan of composer Yoko Kanno's works and up until recently, I posted songs from her twice a week.I had noticed a couple of times that some of her work sounded uncomfortably close to the work of others. However, as other Yoko Kanno fans have dug deeper, they have found that "uncomfortably close" doesn't even begin to describe it.A Japanese site has posted some YouTube videos that are quite damaging. Here is one of the videos:I still like Yoko Kanno, but her status has been taken down quite a bit for me. I still think her music is good and some of it really does seem to be original (the site I linked to above features very few comparisons of older works, for example). However, there's going to be an asterisk in my mind whenever I listen to something she's done from now on.
