WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Chapter 1: ...so, any New Order fans here? [Or, in this case, Joy Division?]

Posted over 2 years ago
[Currently playing: Whatever it says on my MOG page. :-D]So, as I haven't glanced around this entire MOGworld yet, I should ask whoever's looking at this right now:Are there any New Order/Joy Division fans in this world besides me?...maybe? :-\I guess this is just one nice humble way of saying, if you don't know either, here's an intro to one piece of it: Joy Division. This band started in '77 when the guys got inspired to start a punk band by [no surprise here?] the Sex Pistols' gig at the Manchester Lesser Free Trade Hall. Ian Curtis [vocals], Bernard 'Barney' Sumner [guitars], Peter 'Hooky' Hook [bass], and Stephen 'Steve' Morris [drums] changed their corner of the music world with a song called "Transmission." Then came the likes of their first album _Unknown Pleasures_ as well as some touring around England--both "Transmission" and _Unknown Pleasures_ were released in 1979.1980 saw the masterpiece songs "Love Will Tear Us Apart" and "Atmosphere." Their second, and final, album _Closer_ was released that same year, but after some tragedy: with band pressures, a failing marriage and a hectic affair, and with his bout with depression and epilepsy, Ian committed suicide on 18 May 1980 in his home in Macclesfield. The songs and album had brilliant reviews, but it was a sad ending for one band...only to begin another one, which I'll probably MOG about tomorrow. :-)In the meantime, here is Joy Division's first single, from 1979: "Transmission."...by the way, did I mention that this is my favorite song of all time?Until the next round... cheers!
