Review of Ferry Corsten @ Ruby Skye San Francisco

Posted almost 5 years ago
Outside Ruby Skye the night sky glowed through thick fog, obscuring but illuminated by the nearly full moon. People came out in droves this summer Friday, to hear the sounds of Ferry Corsten, Rotterdam trance DJ and producer, a quickly ascending star on San Francisco's nightlife scene.

The large and posh club Ruby Skye was packed full of people out for this spectacle, and DJs Taj and Dirtyhertz warmed up the floor and balcony, clapping and waving their hands while putting down some fresh tracks on vinyl.

People moved about the club, swishing and dodging through the fine wear and slinky dresses, lightly touching others to guide them as they weaved past. Meanwhile four dancing ladies took their positions at stations on the stage, moving to the beat for the visual delight of onlookers.

When Ferry took the decks, the crowd roared and screamed with welcome and appreciation, continuing until Ferry broke out into smile. While cueing up his first track he had a look over the mixer and gave a chuckle to the turntables in the setup; he would be using CDJs for an all CD set.

Corsten's set was hard-pumping and explosive, arriving into breakdowns which erupted the crowd and threw hands into the air, index fingers pointed upward in a disco revival. The thoughtful tunes pulled us onward through a journey, as a screen descended in front of the pillars, morphing into visuals including photos of Mr. Corsten and a three-eyed sun creature with a smiling toothed mouth.

Ferry was unstoppable - relentless, captivating the crowd for hours with a combination of new material and classic anthems. This great night out in the City delivered on its promise, and the melodies sang in my head as I walked the city streets home.
