Sunday I've Just Seen A Face Under the Covers

Wheatstraw Suite is a real gem from start to finish. It's programmed that way, so you listen all the way through and have a complete musical and sentimental experience. I got this album in the cut-outs at the convenience store and it's been a favorite ever since. One of the times I saw them at the Cellar Door in DC, they said now they'll do one from Wheatstraw Sweet, I cheered and Rodney said, "So YOU're the one who bought it." Years later, my sister married banjo picker Frank Schoepf and I saw that his copy of it was all funky and warped. He said he kept it for sentimental reasons. Rodney gave it to him while they were riding in Rodney's pickup truck and it had been on the seat under a basket of apples, some rotten. They said when they first went to play a gig in California; "they" asked what kind of music they played. They answered "OUR kind of music" b/c "if we'd said bluegrass, they would have swept us out in the morning with the McDonald's wrappers." Before that, I had not bothered to think they were a bluegrass band. Mitch Jayne was the only bass player I've seen who drove a VW Beetle. Think about that. Mitch also is a writer. He wrote a good novel titled, "Fishhawk", which was made into a movie starring Will Sampson called, "Old Fishhawk".

Very nice cover - I enjoyed the listen. Can't ask for much more that that!

    Thanks!
