The Youngbloods first three albums had many great tracks, two of which you'll get to hear here, both written by their lead singer Jesse Colin Young. "Tears Are Falling" was the B-side of their first single, in 1966, and on their eponymous first album in 1967.
In 1968 they moved from New York to Marin County just north of San Francisco, and recorded their third album Elephant Mountain, which had, aside from a few piano instrumentals, no filler. It also had this lovely cover art and the song "Smug."

Jonh, I remember hearing only their hit "Get Together" on the radio, and too many times. At least their version would end the chorus with the lyrics "right now" instead of "yeah yeah" the way an earlier version did by, maybe, Hoyt Axton?

Now that MOG's days-long tantrum has ended - Web sites should never threaten to hold their breath until they turn blue - I can finally comment on this post. I fondly remember when "Elephant Mountain" came out. Being of a whimsical nature at that time - my, how time changes one - "Grizzly Bear" was my pick to click. Later I was in an R & B band that worked out a rather good arrangement of "Beautiful." The two songs you've chosen were not among my favorites at the time, but they're the ones that have clearly aged the best. And how beautiful was Jesse Colin Young's voice?
