This 1930 recording is by one of the major country artists of the late twenties and thirties. Sam McGhee accompanied here on guitar.

  1. kristiana says I really enjoyed that! I was wondering what it was reminding me of, and realized the band Smoke, which I had inquired about on Mog but got no responses. And not just because they both are playing banjos. Ok, maybe because they're both playing banjos. :) But nah.

  3. Spike says kristiana, now I've got to check out this Smoke and try to hear the ineffable link. ivylander, it's likely Bob did, since tracks of his were on Folkways' _Anthology of American Folkmusic_ (1953), and Macon's first LP on Folkways (1963) put together by Pete Seeger. Macon died in 1952.

  9. Jonh Ingham says Wow. And double wow. There's something about this that makes Jimmy Rogers sound like a pop singer in comparison. His voice is a work of wonder.
