The highpoint for me of this lesser-known but critically-acclaimed 1978 album Separates by the British group 999 is their song "Out of Reach." Not a habitué of classic rock radio, I hope this is a new one for most of you out there, and that you enjoy it.

The bass rumbles along quite nicely..dug it.
Never heard this before. Like the vocals. Nice outfits -- no Haircut 100 but very stylish for 78.
Cody, glad you dug it. I boosted the bass from my LP version.
funoka, Haircut 100 sounds "in," and, alas, probably not possible for a geezer like me.
Slammin', Spike. And much tuffer than Haircut 100 (for whom I have an inexplicable affection).
Mike, it's great to finally be slammin', and and the same time learn a new adjective I can use. I also thought Haircut 100 was a type of haircut, not a group. The MOG learning curve is sometimes pretty steep.
I will have to post some Haircut 100 -- for the geezers -- they were know for wearing nice sweaters. Their leader -- Nick Heyward -- put out some nice solo stuff.
New to me, Really enjoyed the listen,
Thanks Spike!
Spike -- you think your dudes look good. Check this out

This is a nifty little song that illustrates how short the shelf life of "punk" really was. 999 started out as committed punkers in '76 (I had one terrific single of theirs, "Titanic Reaction," though God know where it is now), but it is clear that only two years later, they had metamorposed into a quite different proposition. Very rock, but with a definite pop element. Quality entertainment.
funoka: Their knee socks are a bold move. Heyward has done good!
inrumford: Sharing some music successfully is true fun.
ivylander, you're right, but one could also opine that they're not that distant from each other on the punk--->hard rock continuum. Both genres embrace both tracks because they're strong. What's more, punk is by definition a subset of hard rock. To find another 999 initiate makes my day
Bless you for unearthing that. It was just as good as I remembered it, with a twitchy, prowling-the-streets-at-night feel. This will be a good day, one feels....
Thanks for posting "Titanic.."! I hadn't heard pre-Separates stuff before.
Spike, the marvelous Internet informs me that 999 are still gigging and making records (latest title: "Death In Soho") with more or less the original lineup. They've got a Web site, too, you will not be surprised to discover. What a terrific world we inhabit....
Especially at the end of the track, the singer reminds me in some ways of Johnny Rotten. IMHO their first three albums make the grade, and it seems that their CD reissues include bonus tracks.
ivylander, I had just checked them out on allmusic.com, and learned of their non-demise as well. Maybe the pursued the punk rebellion by rebelling against punk stereotype in staying together and nurturing their muses.
How transgressive!
definitely new and damn I shoulda heard this previously.
manythanks!
wassonii, you're very welcome.
