Reba? Yes, Reba!

Posted 4 months ago

If you, like me, haven't ever followed country music radio much, then you might not have heard too many times this top hit from 1985 and might not roll your eyes at my going all non-obscure on you. On her second album for MCA, My Kind of Country, McEntire rejected pop-country string section arrangements for a more traditional country sound, and because country fans coincidentally were ready for such a trend-shift, "How Blue" ended up going to number one.

A year later, 1986, looking non-blue.

So, her music bounced while she felt trounced.

Reba is one of the few "contemporary" country performers that I respect. She knows and can finesse the roots.

Mike, now you make me want to check out her sitcom to see if she can finesse that as well as the does the roots.

inrumford, her voice is clear, something to hear, as she drops a tear into her beer.

She and George Strait are probably the most respected long running country starts of our gggggeneration. And her distinctive style has never been matched or duplicated. And she's looking damn good for her age too. Strange.

MusicRX, strange it is.  All of Google Images's many (mostly recent, I'm guessing) photos of her make her look equally young, and the only clue about her true youth in the one I chose was the "21st" printed on the panel behind her.  From your video, she seems to be still going strong.

Yeah, I dig Reba..and Patty Loveless and Carlene Carter (to some extent) in the chart toppers of country land..If they are even chart toppers anymore. The Patty Loveless album Mountain Soul still gets a lotta play around my house.

Cody, yeah, Mountain Soul gets a lotta respect around these parts as well (at least in my room). Carlene Carter was under my radar until now, but now is a person of interest. There's a Loveless cut that I've been fixin' to post about for quite a while, but in the meantime here's another of hers that is perfectly fine, “I Already Miss You (Like You're Already Gone)” from her 1991 album Up Against My Heart. Someday someone should reverse the formula and sing the verses with a backup singer and the choruses alone.
