YES!

http://mog.com/Kate/blog_post/30527Funny thing happened when I gave Kate this Yoko mix this morning... she played it on the stereo here at the MOG offices (mogffices?), and at a certain moment (specifically, upon the fadeout of "Every Man Has a Woman Who Loves Him"), someone asked... "Who is this?" (A sign of interest!) I said, "Yoko." Then Jess (hate to single you out, Jess, but it is pretty important to my general thrust, since you were the leaver of the sole negative comment on my previous Yoko post) said, "Yeah, you know, this is actually kind of... I kind of like it!" At which point everyone else in the office chimed in: "Yeah!"Idea for new MOG tagline: "WE LIKE YOKO ONO"

  2. ookpik says Ha ha! I think that one of those global consciousness-raising synchronicities (uh, I guess you call those _trends_) is afoot with Yoko Ono. It isn't just the MOG offices who have been finally, maybe, kind of getting into Yoko. Her name has been popping up in my daily life. Maybe she'll be _Pet Sounds_ for 2007.

  4. damianmannn says I always think of John's story of his initial interest in Yoko. He'd gone to her show/exhibit and one of her pieces involved climbing a ladder. At the top, on the ceiling, was a canvas painted white and in very small letters was the word "YES". It didn't say, "made you climb up that ladder for nothing"...or "Fuck Off". It said, "YES". He knew he liked her right at that moment.

  6. Spencer Owen says Yep. Hence the subject. Thanks for that though; I forget to contribute stories like those because there are always plenty people that haven't heard 'em.

  10. Christopher Grant Harris says I've never understood why people automatically don't like Yoko's music. I can understand why people might not like her (though I usually disagree with their reasoning), but it seems like they extend their personal dislikes to her music as well.

  11. Anonymous says i like her writing. and she was cool with john cage. i heard this one yoko album that was amazing - it was completely experimental - but on the display at virgin (yuk) it had the case for plastic ono band. so i was frustrated.

  13. Spencer Owen says She sure was cool with John Cage. He dedicated his piece 0'00" half to her. Also, are you sure the album playing wasn't Yoko Ono/Plastic Ono Band? It has an identical cover to John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band - at least at a glance, because on Yoko's, she's in his lap, and on John's, he's in her lap.

  15. Lester Jonze says My friend in the ninth grade was some wacko John Lennon Yoko Ono freak. This was back in the formative days of the Beatle worship. So I've heard them all. All the screaming, all the dolphin chirping, forty seven mixes of _Don't Worry Kyoko (Mummy's only looking for her hand in the snow)_. We wrote a farce piece in the high school paper about avant gardism, dadaism, and Yoko. I even sat in a trash bag one Saturday in front of his house to celebrate, what else? Bagism. I had to move away.
