March is for Spencers.

Posted almost 3 years ago

I've waited probably too long to post about all this. From now through April 4, various people on the West Coast of our GREAT NATION have a chance to see yours truly, Spencer Owen, perform both songs of his own devising on a microphone and backing track (or occasionally, piano) AND songs of the devising of friends on the drums and percussion.

It seems more complicated than it is. Here's the breakdown.

Bird By Snow - that's Fletcher Tucker's evocative, oozy songs, and I play the drums and sing a bit of backing vocals. (He planned the tour dates in mid-March, and put out my 2007 album Logic on his record label, Gnome Life Records. I co-arranged both the last BBS album, Sky, and the upcoming album, Songbread/Another Ocean.)

Sean Smith - that's Sean Smith's eclectic (light, heavy, in between) instrumental acoustic guitar music, with Marc Dantona on the bass and myself on the drums and percussion. (I played on the 2007 Gnome Life release Eternal. Sean planned the first three shows listed.)

James Rabbit - that's Tyler Martin's bright pop squad with myself as percussionist, singer and general cheerleader. (I'm on numerous tracks of the upcoming maximalist insanity that is the almost-out '09 James Rabbit album - Perfect Waves.)

Spencer Owen - that's me. I'll be selling Logic, The Light Touch and maybe some other sundry items if I've got any. I'll be performing songs from my usual self-karaoke stable, plus a few more, and at piano shows, maybe even some improvisation. (Eat your heart out, Jarrett.) Also featuring a 2.0 upgrade to the sparkly sweater (version 1.0 seen below in this photo of me as, apparently, cut-rate televangelist).

OK. THE SCHEDULE. Other bands will be playing at these shows, but I didn't set up the shows, so you'll forgive me for just showing you which of my affiliated acts will be performing. There's a bit of unknown. In those cases, you should just be pleased that I get to take a trip to those places, and if you live there, maybe you can scour the town looking high and low for our music. (OR just check Bird By Snow's myspace for more updated info.)

Watch, as well, for an announcement of a show happening in mid-April as part of James Rabbit's Perfect Waves Tour 2009.

This is really exciting for me. Hoping people come on out and appreciate what I do.
