Ever since seeing Daft Punk at the Greek in Berkeley, Thomas and Guy have been becoming a couple of my many favorite people. They are good at music, they are smart and use smart thoughts as fuel for speaking, and they aren't too shabby with the visuals - see above link, as well as this stellar preview for Electroma, their recent feature-length film:I kinda get chills when they step out of the doorway. Naturally this is going to be a slow film, but naturally I'm all for it. In an interview, Thomas Bangalter says, in response to the questioner's distinction between video art and film: "Video art is the same all the time because audiences do not know how to receive it. Film is the same all the time because audiences don't understand what is possible." Quote of the summer?Electroma is showing on August 20 at the Mezzanine in SF. Film starts at 7:30 PM sharp. I'll undoubtedly be there.

  2. Anna says You lucky sod, I've never seen them live (YET). I had no idea about this film, thank you for the heads up. I am surely not gonna miss it (if it gets aired here or if I can get a copy of it, that is).

  3. ookpik says I love Daft Punk in such a funny way. They are extremely serious and totally non-serious at the same time. All their output is so campy it goes around the corner, back to regular art. They are like the Led Zeppelin of dance music. I am stoked for Electroma.

  5. SpencerAdmin says Actually, I didn't go on Monday. It sounded like it was gonna be a nightmare the more I heard - namely, there was some online promotion where people could RSVP to get in free and 700 people had already RSVPed over a week in advance... I'll watch the DVD or somethin'. I really want to see it though.

  6. iodapril says Ahhh yeah. Tis true. Twas busy. It actually worked out. When we walked up and saw the huge line that was there already at 7, we also saw a friend standing towards the very front of the time that exclaimed "THERE YOU GUYS ARE!" and let us cut. (horrible, i know. just horrible. what kind of a person cuts line?!?) It's definitely an interesting movie I'm glad I saw. I'd like to discuss after you see it :]
