WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Tobin - Foley Room

Posted over 2 years ago
There are only a few select artists whose music I actively seek out and monitor. Most of them I have spoken about at length on my MOG before, such as Ferry Corsten, C-Mon & Kypski or the Herbaliser, and among those ranks sits the dark lord of sinister beat programming, Amon Tobin. Ever since I heard 'Sordid' on the Funkungfusion compilation, he's been a consistent member of my top ten. And now I have the pleasure of introducing his newest album, released very, very recently from ninjatune, Foley Room. Each time Tobin releases an album, he does something brand new, it seems - and following in the steps of the Herbaliser's most recent 'Take London' album, he appears to have taken not only his usual amalgam of found sounds, but live orchestral and haunting horror-esques cratchy violins, which I can definitely say I approve of.From the ninjatune website:Created using found sounds from tigers roaring to cats eating rats, from wasps to falling chickpeas, kitchen utensils to motorbikes to water dripping from a tap. Added to this were the sounds of musicians like the Kronos Quartet, Stefan Schneider and Sarah Pagé.That goes right to the top of my wishlist, next to C-Mon & Kypski's Where the Wild Things Are.

  1. ciphermedia says I love this! Have never heard of Amon Tobin. (This is about the fifth band/muso I've been introduced to today...) Have always been a fan of found sounds - probably 'cos I originally did an experimental sond course at art school about 25 years ago. Thanks for the post. Jonathan

  2. Hermes says Just discovererd this album, and it's pretty epic. Amon Tobin is on of the guys at Ninja Tunes, that I didn't look so close at until now. I was never very fond of the few tracks of him, which I had on compilations of Ninja Tunes. But this album rocks.
