Cornelius is another funky musician who has made something of a name of himself with his eccentric musical style. He recently, after a very long musical lull, came out with a new album, entitled 'Sensuous'. The new LP is par for his particular course; it's great chilling music (if you don't mind odd) and is a musical buffet in a world of one-course McAlbums.
Still, my favorite Cornelius album to date has to be 'Point'. The CD case alone drives the point home, being a stark white, featureless case with a single blue airbrush dot in the center. An odd contrast for the complex, if eloquently easy-to-understand music contained within.
The title track, "Point of view point" is a prime example of the method by which Cornelius melds real sounds - guitar, drums, and the human voice into a complete musical creature. I've never been a fan of lyrical music, truth be told. I do listen to my share, but I feel like the voice is used as a tool by which most artists attempt to hide their musical faults. Cornelius uses the voice not as a blanket, but as another instrument - manipulating it and playing it as part of his music, not something tacked on secondarily.
Enjoy.
