One band America really missed the boat on....

Posted almost 2 years ago

I'm just as guilty. By the time Blur hit the scene, I was already moving from my psychedlic and "Manchester Scene" phase to Grunge. "There's No Other Way" just didn't grab me when it came out, so i never really got to know Blur at all during the 90s.

"Song 2" became popular in America when Blur was already towards the end of their run. These guys were huge in England and deservedly so. It's hard to believe America fell for Oasis instead of Blur. Oasis is good and had their moments, but Blur is so much deeper, and better.

For me, it was "Crazy Beat" that really caught my attention. Grunge was passing and I was still looking for quality heavy music, and I have always had a soft spot for power pop. After acquiring a copy of "Blur: The Best of", I finally heard brilliant gems like "Beetlebum" and "Cofee and TV". The whole set was great but those songs were it for me. Since then, I have gotten all of their albums and have greatly enjoyed them all, even "Think Tank".

So if you are just curious about the band because of "Song 2" or The Gorillaz, dive in and enjoy yourself. you will be happy you did.
