MOG MOG

BECAUSE THE WEB MOSTLY SUCKS

I got this yesterday and have listened to it twice so far. If you're familiar with Keith Jarrett's solo concerts, and you don't have this album, uh... what's your deal? If you're not familiar with Keith Jarrett or the instrument formally known as the piano forte, here's the deal:

Keith Jarrett is one of the greatest musical minds of our time. He played in Miles Davis' electric bands, led an underrated monster of a quartet on Impulse! Records (many of these albums are on iTunes now), and has performed many completely improvised solo piano concerts. The Carnegie Hall Concert is the most recently recorded. Jarrett creates and develops incredible pieces of music unlike anybody I've ever heard. I supposed Bach, Beethoven, or Mozart were capable of this sort of thing, if that gives you an idea of this man's ability.

This album would be a good launching point for somebody interested in Jarrett's solo improvisations because unlike the earlier recordings, each piece is a bit shorter. Gives your ears and mind a break for a moment. The second disc also includes some pre-written compositions, so if you have a problem with the nameless improvisations, you'll be able to grasp the melodies and forms of these tracks. Enjoy!

Sweet. I've got his Koln Concert and, other than his Miles Davis period, that's all I've got. I just might have to catch up on Mr. Jarrett's music.
