The White Stripes Recall Conquest Singles Sold In US

Posted about 1 year ago
The White Stripes posted the first message of the new year on their website today, but it's not good news for US consumers. Apparently the band have just discovered that the 7" singles of Conquest that were released in the States at the end of last year have "incorrect stamp stickers" on them and need to be replaced. Well, do they need to be? Maybe this makes them more valuable to collectors? Maybe not. Anyhow, the band are interested in making things right with their adoring fans in a timely manner. Here is the full message they posted with details of what to do next:
Apologies to those of you that have purchased any of the "Conquest" seven inches in the USA as they had incorrect stamp stickers placed on them by the factory. As you can imagine, the holidays prevented us from finding this out right away and have also provided us with the challenge of getting it corrected in a timely fashion as everyone was away on vacation until recently. Existing stock will now feature the correct stickers and should be ready to ship by early next week. For those of you who already possess your copies, a "Conquest" stamp sticker can be mailed to you if you send your full mailing information and which singles you purchased to whitestripesvinyl(at)gmail.com. Thanks so much for your understanding, patience and continued support. Happy New Year!
Wow, fans of indie rock in the US still buy vinyl? Is that true? Or is this a marketing ploy to make us believe that it's true?White Stripes website:http://www.whitestripes.com/

  2. FondueFerret says it is in fact true. i pre-ordered all three of the 7"s in december and received the mislabeled versions. as much as i want to listen to them, i think i'm going to have to keep these ones sealed.

  5. ap says sure thing, if indie-fans in europe buy vinyl, why shouldn't indie-fans in the states?

  6. ammagiq says I still buy vinyl and think it will outlast CDs. I prefer listening to vinyl at home and mp3s at work, car, on the go, etc. CDs don't really fit into the equation anymore except to rip into mp3s. Some labels sell vinyl and give a password to access the mp3s online. that seems like the way to go. Anyway, this was probably an honest mistake by the manufacturer, not a marketing ploy.
