Sardonic Bon Mots Are Great And All But I'll Take Whimsy, Thank You

Posted over 2 years ago
The song is not romantic in any way, and for me that is the bulk of its charm. In the relationship pictured in the song and video, there is no currency of sex or a child’s idea of physical love and all of its trappings exchanged or the expectation of a future exchange. All these two want from each other is the company of a playmate to stare slack-jawed with at the tiny wonders in their world. To compare notes on what they find in order to form a better holistic understanding.I would argue that it would fit perfectly into the final scene of _Midnight Cowboy_.

  1. Smooth Hegemon says Fall is here, hear the yell, back to school, ring the bell brand new shoes, walking blues, climb the fence, books and pens I can tell that we're going to be friends. Walk with me, Suzy Lee through the park and by the tree we will rest upon the ground and look at all the bugs we found then safely walk to school without a sound Well here we are, no one else, we walked to school all by ourselves there's dirt on our uniforms from chasing all the ants and worms we clean up and now it's time to learn Numbers, letters, learn to spell, nouns, and books and show and tell at playtime we will throw the ball. back to class, through the hall teacher marks our height against the wall And we don't notice any time pass we don't notice anything we sit side by side in every class teacher thinks that I sound funny but she likes the way you sing Tonight I'll dream while in my bed when silly thoughts go through my head about the bugs and alphabet and when I wake tomorrow I'll bet that you and I will walk together again Because I can tell that we're going to be friends

  3. Nixne Svix says I always thought I shoul dof had this song in my arsenal , oh about 20 years ago..... When I was in the second grade I had a HUGE crush on sweet little Hallie. no one knew it , and I knew I had to to broach the subject....but how ? My device was simple. Write such sayings as ; " I heart Cam" and " Cam will you go out with me? check box. I wrote it in large letters on pink stationary , Hallies favorite colour. I t was winter in Kansas , like now and we had a big area that was behind a wall to store coats. I came in late one day and stuffed the notes on top of the mittens in her coat. I chose to help take the TV back to the media room with a fellow student right before recess so I wasnt around and when she got her coat and mittens with everyone else at the recess bell......out came the notes. Needless to say it went over like a wet fart. We didnt end up anything that year , but fourth grade we kissed a few times so , well what ev. the end

  6. Smooth Hegemon says Nix, I will not say this again. I fully support other's rights to do what they wish with their MOG, and if anyone wants to tango with me personally here, that is fine too. I dish it out and gladly take it. But I will not put up with anyone trashing another, especially for no fucking good reason, on one of my posts. It may be arbitrary, I have put up with it in the past, but I will brook this shit no more.

  10. Smooth Hegemon says Nixne Svix said: "that is catagorically you Hedge. always coming from the blind spots in your head on observations…...." Considering the proximity of "H" and "F" on a standard keyboard, I find it hard to believe this was directed at me. If it was, I don't get it. Feel free to explain if I misunderstood and I'll delete my previous comment.

  11. Smooth Hegemon says Dale, your level head prevails yet again! Sorry Nix. I completely misunderstood. Fuckin' a...is my face red. Don't tell the scholarship committee about this! I am tempted to take the comment down, but it's always good to practice laughing at yourself, I suppose.

  18. Rawkkiddoh says As a teacher, that song reminds me so much of school Kids are amazing, and their ability to be able to forgive and move on is something we adults should learn. Every time I hear that song, it brings me back to my many years of teaching. I would see this song unfold almost daily as each year began. The new group of kids, and how they magically all became friends. Now that I sound like a sappy wuss, I must go do something manly. I wonder if Cops is on.
