Saw the band Os Mutantes a couple of weeks ago in NYC-- it was their first concert ever in US The concert started with a mixture of mild excitement and skeptism.especially from the Brazilians in the crowd.. Zelia Duncan was thewoman who replaced Rita Lee.. Rita Lee became a huge but somewhatcheesey star in Brazil after Mutantes -Zelia Duncan is a well knownbrazilian singer who style did seem to fit the Mutantes. One top ofthat yesterday Rita Lee finally broke her silence about this reunionin brazilian press with a few unkind words. (Rita said roughlytranslated "I skeptical of revivals - it is just a band of old mentrying to get money from the music fans to pay for their geriatrics")The first couple of songs were a bit shakey but then Mutantes kickedit into gear -- they did all their hits but this wasn't an oldies actZelia Duncan was great -- Sergio's voice and guitar playing were aspot on..When Sergio said to the crowd" We are Os Mutantes and you don't knowhow good it feels to say that " you could tell that they weren'tdoing this for the money-
