So here's a scene I never knew much about. World Village is releasing a new, more rootsy album called Ana Hina by belly-dancing/singing star Natacha Atlas, who has worked with Jah Wobble (dub, drum & bass) and sung lead for Transglobal Underground (multicultural dance group). Atlas's myspace has a really cool mix of songs from her various albums, including the title track from Ana Hina. Including a version of "I Put a Spell on You"! In all her projects, she apparently combines Arabic, North African and many other elements, but Ana Hina is supposedly less club-like and probably more my style.
