I hope everyone in Mog World had a wonderful Christmas (and I wish everyone a nifty New Year as well!) As we usually do during the holidays, my girlfriend and I go on a road trip to see friends and family (and it's nice to get out of town for a few days). San Antonio and Houston are nice places to visit during the holidays. We received lots of neat presents, and also did some thrifting. And I found some music I've very excited to hear soon. One of my finds was a four Lp set devoted to the songs of Hoagy Carchmichael. It has a great, huge booklet, and the songs are performed by Mel Torme, Louis Armstrong, Bing Crosby, and scores more (includes Hoagy himself). A number of these tracks are an excellent four cd set from JSP devoted to his work (but there were lots more versions new to me on the LPs, and that's why I picked it up). Also got a two cd Tim Buckley set. Again, there weren't that many songs I all ready had in my collection, so it was a worthwhile purchase. Should be good for a road trip. Some of the other records I picked up on my recent travels:a double Lp of Artie Shaw cuts from 1939Saturday Night Fielder (Arthur Fielder from the Boston Pops does Disco!)Anthony Perkins (yes, Norman Bates himself) singing!Plus records by Keely Smith, Turk Murphy, and more. Also bought some 78s by Spike Jones and Rosemary Clooney (among others). Can't wait to listen to everything this weekend!
