Death of Radio

Mark Ramsey over at Hear 2.0 discusses the Perfect Storm of "woes":http://www.hear2.com/2007/11/radios-perfect-.html for terrestrial radio. He lists off 7 major factors that are cutting into radio's strength. I want to look at 2 and add an 8th. His #5 are the disincentives to streaming. Oddly enough if your stream isn't a 100% match to your broadcast then it is no longer your radio station for ra

Johnette Napolitano - Acoustic and Cool

"Johnette Napolitano":http://www.johnettenapolitano.com/ the former lead singer for "Concrete Blonde":http://www.concreteblondeofficialwebsite.com/ was in Dallas for an acoustic show at Poor David's Pub. The venue is smallish- mayve room for 200 and only about 125 were present. When an artist that has been around for as long as Napolitano has you worry about how well they hold up. The rock n' roll

I've been told that the artists I mentioned aren't really country acts. Apparently real fans of Merle Haggard and Toby Keith would "kick my college boy ass"(direct quote). What I have found is something called alt-country. OK, fine.Since I listen to alt-rock that sort of makes sense that it appeals to me.I'll be honest and admit I had no idea that country music had fractured into alternative and m

Country Sides I

Well, as I said, I've sort of branched off the rock n' roll tree a bit to find some new music. Country will be the first place I've dipped my foot into the pool. I've had a great fondness for country influenced music. Cracker is still one of my favorite bands and they've messed with both "bluegrass":http://www.amazon.com/O-Cracker-Where-Art-Thou/dp/B00008ZZ8B/ref=sr_1_2/104-2914009-4105525?ie=UTF8

It has been a long, long time. No real reason, I just sort of wandered off and have finally come back.In raw terms this has been a pretty good year, musically, to walk away from things. I never want to cop a "music today" attitude but I just wasn't getting a big jones on anything for a stretch and didn't feel inspired to talk about music.Call it age, call it maturity...whatever but I've found a...

Hidden Treasures I

The Sex Pistols are the most important band of the last 30 years. Not the best mind you but the most important. The sonic assault they started changed the musical world. The Pistols wanted to be a killer asteroid and destroy all the dinosaurs tramping about the music scene. In this they failed. Ironically the destroyers were great creators. They tore open the musical world and opened up space for

I'm a dad. I'm the dad of a three year old. I'm also a music fan and I feared these two things would collide. Before my son was born my friends with kids regaled me with tales of Barney music and Radio Disney. Barney songs are insipid. Radio Disney is a lot of craptastic Britney Spears lite type junk. The future was bleak so I started culling my CD's and paring play lists in preparation for my ...
