I am a follower. My friends have mogs, therefore I must join in the bandwagon. Good thing theyre kinda cool people. The title is a line from the chorus of one of my favorite Ben Kweller songs, "Wasted and Ready", that I'm listening to right now. I remember when I first heard this album - two summers ago I met a guy that I spent a lot of time doing nothing with, really - most of the time we drove around soCal aimlessly asking eachother what are we doing tonight, what are we doing tonight, and ending up just listening to music in his car.
This artist, specifically the album Sha Sha, meant a lot to him, I think. I bought it for myself at Amoeba about a year later, we'd mostly lost touch by then. Every time I listen to it though, I'm taken back to those surreal nights of driving on who knows which freeway and singing along to every song, no real destination, just us, the car, and the music. It helps that Ben Kweller makes good, poppy driving music, but my personal connection to that strange but really fun time puts a smile on my face.I know I'm not the only one who's affected by music like this, and most of the artists I've grown to love have this kind of effect on me. I can't listen to Mountain Goats because they were playing during a break up. My body moves when I listen to Tori Amos because it reminds me of the countless dance competition teams that used her songs. Herbie Hancock makes me miss working at Amuse Music (I'm going back there in the summer). In any case, Sha Sha is bouncy and lovely. I missed a show of his last fall because it coincided with me moving to Davis... totally wish I was there!!! I don't know where this vid is from, but love this song...
