All thanks go to my online friend, Bren aka LordDream on last.fm for introducing me to ES Posthumus. http://www.last.fm/user/lorddream [[hugs]]
To experience them live I think would blow me away......
I can't even explain how their music has inspired, calmed me and made me happier this year at times my heart was twisted, kicked and deformed from a lot of trauma around me.
It's a spiritual connection for me. It reminds me of choral music that I listened when I was younger. But then it reminds me of the Gregorian Chants. Are you familiar with them?
It's a far fetched connection but it is the spiritual connection to the Gregorian Chants that I feel when I hear ES Posthumus with Luna Sans.
This goes back to my fascination with falsetto voices but here it is all about the harmony and the unison of the voices. There is something that balances me and calms me. Maybe because everyone is in unison when they are chanting/singing. It is therapeutic to me! There is chant in the Catholic church that I adore which is, "Lamb of God you take away the sins of the world."
But the falsetto has to evoke emotions that connect me to a higher being. I have to hear the sincerity in the delivery meaning that you as the singer/performer have to FEEL your performance.
Listen to this one. I adore choral music especially when it is sung in Latin. And, of course listening to the strings (violin) makes my heart flutter.
My point in all of this is that ES Posthumus' music allows me to travel to places that I felt were only capable in an ornate church. I feel the cinematic dramatic spiritual connection to dimensions in my mind that I did not know was possible in listening to music at home. I usually have these out of body connections in a spiritual setting (even at the beach or in a scenic landscape) but when I can have it at home it lets me know that either I am more receptive to HIS calling or ES Posthumus is channeling God's words and lyrics through their musical productions. It drives me into an abstract spectacular frenzy that I cannot capture into words but into other facets of life such as visual and performance art.
As I wrote this I immediately thought of this dance performance here:

Really ominous sounding music. Reminds me somewhat of the group Dead Can Dance(who started out in the early '80s) & incorporated lots of world music influences. Here's a vid/song called 'Yulunga':
They made incredible music but broke up in '97 or '98. I've been entranced by Gregorian chant in the past too, it's quite meditative.
WOW! That dance performance was really incredible. I was only going to watch a bit of it but they were so mesmerizing & graceful I couldn't stop watching. Thanks for these. . . .
@augusts1 - wow, Dead Can Dance! I was introduced to their work in 2007 by my friend on Last.fm (Lorddream) who introduced me to ES Posthumus too! I think he said this is the group that Brian Eno was with or Brian Eno's music influened them?! I'm confused. Need to do my research. : /
I have one of his older albums (Brian Eno) and unfortunately I don't have that album on this computer. Waah =( . I have a Dead Can Dance album too but I have not been playing it but after listening to ES posthumus so much it will be lovely to revist them!
I love the song that you shared because of the tribal connection. Very organic and *airy* in touch meaning I space out in a trance listening. I enjoy that feeling at times when I need my space to think. And, isn't that dance awesome?! I was playng on the website ted.com this summer and saw that!!
Thank you for your input!
No, Brian Eno wasn't part of DCD. He may have been an influence though.
Enjoyed this. The connection to gregorian chants doesn't work for me because of the added electronics to the chorale. I do see however, the dead can dance connection which is also loosely medieval/renaissance music influences. Nice and I get the spiritual quality very well. thanks
@augusts1 - thank you so mcuh! I am so in the dark there!
@cptersonart3 - oh, I never thought of that thank you. - "electronics to the chorale" which does not make the gregorian chants work. I guess I see it more as new age?! I dunno. But, I see you understand where I am coming from with the medieval.reniassance influence. For me it is very spiritual. Thank you so much for reading and your comment!
