South Africa's Mama Africa aka Miriam Makeba dies
-
Artist:

When I read the news this morning, my heart shattered. I had heard her music throughout my life. I love her work with Harry Belafonte for it to me merges the worlds of Africa and African Americans. But to me she represented that longing that those of us of the African Diaspora represent who were given a connection to the motherland through her music. I loved the passion in her voice for life and for music. I loved her activism. I loved that she would never allow anyone to change her. How she lived her life is how I live mine which is being grateful for your blessings and being grateful for the little things that make you smile.

i liked the video about her life. her music and voice are amazing. RIP
Sorry to hear this. For me, she was one one of the first singers I heard from Africa that inspired me to have a world view of music when I was a teen. She was about my parents age and am realizing that those of that generation are slowly leaving us.
thats so sad to think about
Never heard of her. Sorry to hear she passed.
my main squeeze was the first to email me about Makeba's passing moments after it was announced on the BBC--sad news, and certainly a life to celebrate.
thanks for these great videos!
