Anyone watch the BET Music Awards last night?
Maxwell made a surprise performance singing Al Green's, "Simply Beautiful" for he claimed and owned the song like his own. He had me screaming and WANTING more.

Maxwell's fans are so patient, understanding and loving. (I would like to say that I am in this category but I am beginning to get very impatient after seeing Maxwell's performance last night because y'all KNOW the man puts the SOUL in everything he does)

i can't believe that album is still on hold. maybe his appearance means it's actually going to see the light of day in a few months! how were the rest of the awards?
@brittanybf - I only looked at the Tribute to Al Green! I could not stomach the rest! =( Oops. I have not been a big fan of the BET awards show. But I should not knock it too much because some people would not be honored if BET awards were not there to give recognition to the forgotten heroes such as the Al Green's who are the very definition of soul music.
Yeah awards shows are hard to get through. Thanks for sharing this clip. Btw, he looks so different these days!
@brittanybf - I think so many people adored his original look of the hair, etc. But for me it is his voice that makes me melt. He could be either a buck and some change or 300 lbs and still make me melt. He could wear hair like Michael Jackson or have a big ole fro like Erykah Badu but the physical part to me is part of the act.
Maxwell to me is like Luther Vandross who was always classic in sound and golden in everything that he did. I could never hate on him because his music moves me that much!

OMG!! I am a HUGE Maxwell fan too!! We (my girls) NEVER miss any concerts that he had in our city, honey. I hate to even call his performances that. It's a MAXWELL EXPERIENCE!
We have everything he has ever recorded on our ipods, even the song with Sweetwater, LOL!!
I don't think I breathed the entire time watching this on TV. It shall NEVER be deleted from my Tivo!!

Great clip, J, thanks for sharing it. Maxwell def. has the pipes that's for sure. I've not been much of a fan but I do KNOW & recognize he has mad talent. For some reason I just couldn't get behind the male singers of the new soul sound, I'm not sure why. You know I love me some Erykah though(anyone who knows me on here has to by now, ha) & she won Best Director for her vid/song "Honey" last night. I also love Angie Stone.

I've been a fanatic of the maxster since he debuted on BET with Till the Cops Come Knocking! I think I screamed the first time i saw that video. BET introduced me to him so that is why I have this love/hate relationship with BET because I have learned about some gems in the industry and if it were not for BET I probably would not know about Miri Ben Ari (the hip hop violinist!) I know I DID NOT BREATHE either after his performance!! 8
@becauseyouarehere - no problem in sharing maxwell love. I adore the undercover baby maker too! He said this in a blog post (undercover baby maker)! That he is the undercover baby maker. I wonder how many children have been named maxwell because of this?!?!?!
@augusts1 - wow, I am a HUGE HUGE HUGE HUGE HUGE HUGE HUGE HUGE HUGE (did I say HUGE!) maxwell fan to the point I would give my right arm to own this Black Summer's Night album. I will have to reclaim all my posts on maxwell if you are interested. That is how DOPE his music is and know it is all about the music and not about me fantasizing sleeping with the dude! I mean it is nice to dream but my best friend actually looks EXACTLY like the man and there is no way in hell I want to sleep with him! It's all in appreciation of the art.

@Augusts1 - I am just as equally as crazy about both of them. I mean a day cannot go by that I cannot listen to some Princey Poo Poo or Maxwell. I mean their music truly speaks to my soul.
It is so insane to the point that I can talk *princey* talk meaning I quote phrases from his songs or even I do some DUMB things like him that I see in these pictures floating on the internet such as how he looks affectinately at you in the pictures, etc. I play in the mirror just when I want to make myself laugh and I say what would Prince do and I flutter my eyelids. I think the dude is more refined in his approach than me! He loves his females in dresses but I know I am so not his type (he likes them light, mixed, etc look at mayte, his second wife, etc.) but that is not what I am attracted to (but I sure have noticed! I mean if he dated a darker lady with some nappy hair I would be shocked! His hair is as nappy as mine by the way. Dude had a fro in the day. I know he has some creamy crack up in there! Creamy crack = relaxer). It is his confidence in himself and his heart that I adore.
Now, you want to know who is really funny! PRINCE. If you listen to some of his songs and really listen to the lyrics. The boy is cutting up half the time. You can tell he enjoys being Prince - Princey Poo for sure! 8)
Now with Maxwell, I never was into Maxwell on the Prince crazy tip but my insanity did start when I saw this video on BET in 1996. I think I literally peed on myself because I said, NO THIS BOY did not start rolling on the floor saying I want to lock you up for days until the cops come knocking. At that time I was speaking to this dude I was really diggin so whenever I think of Maxwell I think of that dude. He he..Here is the video:

Every time I watch Maxwell videos I go CRAZY but listening and without the visuals my heart is OKAY! The man is too much for me (in a good way) but I am not digging him to drop my panties in front him. In fact, I was never intrigued to see Maxwell in concert until recently. I do not have a boyfriend so I do not want to be at a concert goiing literally insane dreaming about being locked up for days by some dude I adore and then I come home to my body pillow! Hmm..me no having that! And, my ex ain't worth crap to even get back with him! (okay, I am sounding a little bitter but he was a true HEAD CASE!) Enough of that..let me turn on Softly, Softly by Maxwell..have you heard this?

Well, I'll admit, the brotha is quite pretty(He kinda reminds me of Macy Gray but far more class & elegance). I don't care for his hair short, it just makes him look average. He needs to bring the nappy fro back(or at least a mini fro! Like that first song/vid quite a bit, it's HOT! The 2nd one is nice too but a little too mellow.
Maxwell is obviously majorly influenced by Princey PP(as well as Barry White, Isaac Hayes, et al). You crack me up w/your obsession over both. Thanks for sharing those vids.
@augusts1 - I'm obsessed with Stuart "Cottonbelly" Mattheman, Sade, Michael Jackson and Amel Larrieux too. Dammit I am just obsessed with music. I think I was a musical instrument in a former life and then I was reborn with absolutely NO singing talent at all but I can shake my BOOTAY! 8) LMAO
I don't care if Maxwell were 1000LBS and bald it is his voice that drives me NUTS! I mean DAYUM! I want to break my leg for a voice like that! 8) AHHHHHHHHHH (teenage moment!)
