WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

This maxwell appreciation will NOT end but had to share - Nine Inch Nails & Maxwell

Posted 3 months ago

What's the connection?

Do you know I have had my Maxwell MTV Unplugged album with Maxwell singing, "Gotta Get Closer" since it came out and I had NO idea that Maxwell was covering Nine Inch Nail's song, "Closer." That's one of my favorite albums ever next to Michael Jackson's, "Off the Wall." Yes, I am giving maxwell that much props on that MTV Unplugged album.

Listen to Nine Inch Nails here:

I feel really dumb realizing this connection now, but then I had a lot against me as to why I did not know. I don't listen to mainstream radio nor do I watch music videos. I don't keep up with what is HOT in the music world.

Now listen to Maxwell's version:

How do I find out about artists? Honestly, its very random. A lot of music is recommended to me and I take it from there.

Maybe IF I had the DVD of MTV's UNPLUGGED with MAXWELL I may have known. That's like me NOT knowing that Maxwell had covered Kate Bush's song "This Woman's Work." I have to thank youtube for the education because in the clip that I saw he thanked Kate Bush for a wonderful song.. Thank you!

Well you are forgiven, since Max's version resembles the original very little. He REALLY made it his own & I really like it alot. That's saying alot since I am was really into NIN back when 'The Downward Spiral' came out so the original I know quite well. I'm fortunate that I really enjoy many types of genres & industrial is great but NIN is greater.

Max is tff to watch singing it in the vid too. Love his facial expressions. Thx for posting this.

@augusts1 wow! That's true for he did claim it as his. That's just like how he claimed, Kate Bush's, "This Woman's Work." I had NO idea he had covered her work.

I have to give him a head nod here to his catalog of work. I guess I am trying to compensate for my blah feelings to his new album. He could have done so much better (in my humble opinion)! Uggh! But then what do I know : X

    Dear SrenityLife,

Now you know you've really reached me with this song! I listened to the original (thanks to you!) and also the video. Maxwell makes it his own which is the hallmark of a great artist. Too many try to keep close to the record and wind up looking a little foolish. Okay, a whole lot of foolish! :) Thanks for sharing! Not my nayional anthem but it is my national anthme for the day!

    Yours truly,

    musikfriend

I didn't realize 'This Woman's Work' was Kate's original. I haven't listened to her in a long time but was into her back in the '80s.

I wholeheartedly agree w/you on his new album. He could've done SO much more with it!
