michael : ( - he is an angel now?

Artist:The Jacksons

Track:Time Waits for No One
it really HIT me now when I was listening to the Triumph album which I PLAYED out when I went to summer camp when I was a kid in 1982. I was always mesmerized by The Jacksons especially by Michael.
Michael was my first crush!
My heart is more nostalgic and it is not necessarily Michael that I long for but that time of innocence. Michael Jackson played an important role to many young girls in the 1970s and 1980s who were developing feelings and emotions. He was so sensitive in the delivery of his songs that I think that is what started this emotional attachment to him as a person. Not only were females attached to his voice but young men too. He presents the age of innocence for so many of us.
Carefree, not paying bills, playing hop scotch, feeling safe, having a parents, a parent or a guardian around. That is what I think when I listen to Michael's work. His music definitely is the soundtrack of my life and I am always so thankful for all that he gave me. I'm so thankful too for my family supporting my love for his work for I did see him all of 5 times from the time I was in 4th grade up until college. I'm so thankful and grateful I had the opportunity and the ability to see him perform in my life. *sigh*

I was never into him enough to want to see him live but I do own his 'BAD' LP(I might even have 'Off The Wall' I don't remember, I'll have to look). Now Janet I was far more into & I've always wanted to see but haven't wanted to pay the exorbitant ticket prices to do so(by the time I really got into her the tix were way too much), 'cause I'm cheap like that, haha. If I can't see an artist for under $50.00 dollars it's not worth it to me. But I've broken that personal rule a few times in the past couple of years w/Ms. Badu & My Bloody Valentine.
Fortunately, many of the artist I like aren't that well known & the genres aren't as mainstream so their ticket prices are considerably lower than the big dogs!
The BAD CD was marketed with a treat where the I Just Can't Stop Loving You single was also sung in Spanish. That is the only reason why I BEGGED my parents to buy me a CD player.
This is a fan video but it is a beautiful duet with Siedah Garrett
I met Janet Jackson in 1990 when I worked with BET. I was 16 at the time and it was surreal experience. She gave me a hug. *teenage screams* I gave her a gift. The book, The Blacker the Berry The Sweeter the Juice, by Wallace Thurman. http://aalbc.com/authors/wallace.htm I have been a fan since her first album, Young Love. I saw her performance on American Bandstand when it first aired

Janet Jackson was the reason why I wanted to wear big hoop earrings. I was so impressionable as a kid. But, aren't we all somewhat vulnerable.
I did not realize how high her ticket prices have gone up. I have seen her perform about 3 times live. I've seen Michael 5 times even once with The Jacksons which was SIMPLY amazing on The Victory Tour! *teenage screams*
I'm a product of my community where we LOVED music and supporting artists which was back in the day. Also, growing up in a black church environment The Jacksons were constantly discussed as a role model for the kids when I was younger. The family was raised as Jehovah Witnesses though but I remember my pastor saying that he was a good kid when I was a kid.
I used to watch The Jacksons cartoon when I was little. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vktk49zjo_E
Thanks for sharing, Augusts1.
Dear SerenityLife,
I loved the description of how you got into Michael Jackson's music. It must have been one of the biggest thrills to see this guy in person as well as his family. He was a rare meeting of genius which we rarely get to see these days. I wrote a blog yesterday which tried to express my own feelings about Michael's passing. Quincy Jones said it best in saying that Michael was a true professional performer, knowing exactly where to place everything in his music and stage persona. It's always a great comfort to see and hear someone who can really entertain. We still have his music and should really let it go for it represents a lifetime spent in creating good music that made everyone happy. :)
Yours truly,
muskfriend
Wow, what a response Jen! Thanks for the links. That spanish version is lovely. And Janet is SO young in that Bandstand appearance, lol. That's cool you got to meet her! I'm familiar w/that book title but not read it. I don't recall seeing the J5 cartoon, I think I was too old by then to get into it. So you worked at BET for awhile huh? That's quite a resume attention grabber!
I really adored & was influenced by Elton John in my pre & early teens, who's music I obsessed over to no end. I had a close friend who was into him too & we'd quote lyrics in our convos, lol. I was also hugely influenced by The Carpenters & Karen was my first music idol crush ever & their album 'Close To You' was my first LP I ever purchased.
@musikfriend thank you for sharing. I tried responding on my BB yesterday to all of your wonderful remarks but MOG failed to capture EVERYTHING I wrote. Waah. I'll respond again. Big hugs.
@augusts1 see you get the obsession with certain musc artists. Michael was MY EVERYTHING when it came to music so this has been a HUGE personal loss to me in terms of what influenced me to listen to ALL genres every conceivable in life. I don't think may people know all of what MJ was into musically because he listened to EVERYTHING. He was able to merge different genres. There was much more to him than just Thriller and I hope that the world will look at his ENTIRE catalogue of what he accomplished throughout his life. There are so many gems of his that are overlooked. And, I hope that in appreciating his life that all of his work will be considered. I even have some tracks from some producers who entrusted me with unedited recordings of Michael Jackson that I am so thankful for. His voice to me was a lullaby that soothed me when I was having a bad day.
Big hugs xox
Yes I do get the obsessiveness w/certain artists. Us OCD folks gotta stick together! @;P I truly do understand what a huge personal loss this is for you for the very fact that he meant everything. When a pre-pubescent child discovers an artist that expresses their most heartfelt desires & emotions how could one NOT become obsessed w/appreciating all that artist entails. They have become you or you them in your innocent impressionable mind because they embody all that you want to be and do.
Here is an excellent story I discovered through another blog who provided a link to it(the providing blog belongs to a former mogger I'm still in contact with Mogroith). The site is a bay area artist by the name of Chuck Prophet who is a legend in his own right. But the story is by a record store owner, Andrew Rush, who encountered MJ's ecclectic musical taste when he paid his store a visit. It's a fascinating story & perfectly encapsulizes MJ's musical taste(& what you stated):

That's awesome that you have some of MJ's unedited recordings. You definitely are an UBER fan!
@augusts1 thank you!!
