Spoken word artist Taalam Acey makes me have an uncontrollable smile!

Posted over 2 years ago

Despite the fact of being wonderful eye candy as my friend Wonderlove has said to me, spoken word artist Taalam Acey is a talent that I hope those who are in academia and those who want to learn in a non traditional way will recognize. Taalam Acey is to me what Langston Hughes was during his lifetime. A poet who lives and breathes what he puts to pen or nowadays what he may type on his blackberry or computer.

2 years ago I was introduced to Taalam Acey's work through the poem he performed called, Market for Niga$$. Though the worst profanity that I feel could be used is used in his poem, he said it with a purpose to teach a lesson, and a lesson that I did get from his poem.

See here: May I introduce Taalam Acey (I wrote this poem when I was previously known on mog as 2Serenity)

Though Taalam will teach you about pop culture, politics, African and African American history, he has a sensual side which has created a loyal female following to his fan base. I was unaware of his romantic side until after I bought one of his CDs and I said to myself, "oh my lord, hm...this is erotic but fantastic." I can't get enough of listening to his delivery of his poems.

Last week, I had the pleasure of seeing him perform at the Bowery Poetry Club - Bowery Poetry Club - Home - in New York City. I think my knees began to shake when he started to perform his poem, "She Conjurez." I had even heard it on his CD, "The Market 4 Change" that I purchased. When he started to perform it, I said to myself, "OH MY LORD, he is performing one of my favorite poems by him."

If you want to experience spoken word on an emotional, sensual and even educational tip, I hope you consider purchasing one of Taalam Acey's CDs. His work is priceless to me!

Also please check out the other poets that he featured at his Bowery Poetry Club performance. I was in awe:

    SerenityLife,

Very intense yet these are my same thoughts exactly. Although I would be too terrified of opening my mind in public like this, Talaam Acey is a force to be reckoned. Thanks for an enlightening experience!

@musikfriend - he says exactly what is on his mind and he is extremely descriptive. I do not need any physical visuals for his words say enough for me! His work in a way reminds me of The Last Poets from the late 1960s who said it like they meant it! The Last Poets on MySpace Music - Free Streaming MP3s, Pictures & Music Downloads But, I am not to sure if they were sexual like Taalam Acey but they were so expressive.
