[By the way, I was unaware that Boyz II Men had an album that was nominated! I had no clue they had an album out : / Lord! 2 nominations! Where have I been?]
For almost 2 years I used twitter and blogged on almost every aspect of my life.
On January 26 which happened to be my 35th birthday, I said I needed to stop the insanity. To me micro blogging was too much and to try to follow the 1000 plus people who followed me was not benefitting me in any way but adding stress.
Last night though I was on Facebook and I used my mood status to react to the Grammy Awards. I did not realize how lively it would get esepcially with people who I know not through social media but offline from school, neighborhood, life, etc.
Most of my friends were in agreement with my spontaneous remarks, until I dissed T.I. . A female friend of mine felt that she had to step in and share a side to his story that she felt was not shared. My friend actually works in the music industry and I failed to realize that a few of my friends offline do know some musicians (and are musicians) so maybe I should have cooled my off beat remarks? But then what would be the point of me not being honest with myself if that is the point of social media?
Since I deleted twitter my life has been much better for I was not focused on trying to please 1000 plus followers every minute. Most of the time on twitter I was either fighting with someone, defending my views or sharing information that I felt was informative for myself. However, in the end I found it to me more of a pain than a gain for me.
However, this morning I was reading the New York Times and I see that they live blogged the event. I was not aware that the New York Times was going to LIVE BLOG it. Also, I wonder too how much I value the live bloggers opinions.
New York Times - Live Blogging at the Grammy Awards
A personal friend of mine was LIVE BLOGGING at the Grammys through her twitter account too and I would peak in every now and then but otherwise I was not focused on what she was saying but watching the Grammys to see what was going on.
The highlight of the evening to me was seeing singer, Adele win for Best New Artist. She made me so proud for I adore her debut album, 19. I pray she stays in God's favor and does not get caught up in the unfortunate situation Amy Winehouse has been going through.
My goal for myself in not being disgusted with the Grammys is to be a part of the solution. I would love to be able to receive my credentials to vote in the Grammys. Although I am not a musician but a writer and activist, I hope possibly I can figure out a way to have a vote and say that I was able to be a part of the system and put my own stamp on it without being upset all the time.
I have hope! xoox

SerenityLife,
I totally agree with getting too hooked on blogging! It's a way to keep the gray matter moving but like with cell phones, it can also be a nuisance.
As for the Grammies, I agree with just about everyone that it was a train wreck. To see artists of such wide ranges of expression getting together to play duets (as in the case of Stevie Wonder with the Jonas Brothers) is only explained by the fact that the producers wanted the viewers to stay in their seat throughout the whole show. Different audiences for rappers and the others artists were slapped together to keep evryone happy. Well, in my eye, this was like a descent into the different circles of Heck (can we say h-e-double tooth picks here?).
The best remedy is to realize that this will never work, the tastes of each segment of the viewing audience will always be different and people will always visit the loo or the fridge or talk to their friends when something is on they don't like. So leave everyone to perform separately, try to build a program with a unifying host (Will Smith would be a great idea). Especially when building a program, listen first to the music then build the program so that at least people will be interested in the flow.
Okay, now I'll take something for my head ache!
Yours truly,
musikfriend
Hi stranger. As is my want I ignored the Grammys award show. As an activist, I'd like to get your thoughts on something. Do you think some parents felt betrayed by L'Il Wayne? I mean rwally, he made a great cd last year, even I liked patrs of it. (hip-hop is not my bag, generally speaking). Some of his music is gorgeous, thought provoking, & funny. But that last track (hidden?)! If I had bought that cd for my son or daughter I'd have been enraged that a performer would indulge in such filth & sneak it in undercover. How come no one will call him (and others) out on this issue?
@musikfriend - I agree with you so much. I like the concept of a unifying award show. Possibly that could work. I am just not seeing how this social media world and the media world will ever mend together. So much noise between the two. We are all entitled to our opinions so I guess thi is going to be something that will evolve over time. I solution for myself is to remain here and learn from all of my jewels of music history that you give me. xoxo Yay. Thank you for reading!
@deadmandeadman - wow, you have a Lil Wayne album? I never bought it. I am not interested in him for I don't understand what he is saying. I am not even intrigued to buy it and make him rich from my few bucks. I am not to sure what Lil Wayne is all about. None of my friends that I speak to are into him that I am aware of except for my friend Lynn D Johnson who is a blogger but she said she got hooked into hip hop from her last job hich ws working at Vibe Magazine. She told me though Lil Wayne was not for everyone. Now, if you liked parts of it maybe I can listen to it through the videos on youtube. Ooh you are making me wondering about that last track of his. Hmm...some people love to push the limit if they can if that is possible. I'm afraid to know what he said. Thank you for sharing that! Miss you too, stranger! xoxo Thank you for reading! xoxo
At work all the tech dev guys say we should be on Twitter. I think I will show them your page as a cautionary note. :-)
Last night I went to the BAFTAs through a friend's good graces. A friend in LA phoned me during the night and he had just been at the Grammys. So we shared gossip and celebrity name dropping - very offline since we were on mobiles but so very modern! I was wondering during the awards how many people in the room were tweeting but it was much more fun hearing a human voice telling me the skinny and me to him.
@jonh- twitter is very useful but remeber it is a tool to spread helpful information and not to create too much noise (noise = tweets/talking). Although you don't want people to forget who you maybe you still want to interact with your followers and create a community for all of those around you. Some of your folllowers maybe too demanding but then you have to realize people are people and you take them for that.
If you do join twitter, I may use my other account to help a few of my special friends like you and a few others who are asking me to return. But, it is such a bad habit for myself that I had to realize that I don't need that distraction. I had it on my phone so I used it like doing text messages all the time. I need my time to think when I am not on my computer!

Thank you for reading! : D
I just want you to know I posted my first comment while having my first cup of tea this morning. (yes, tea today instead of coffee 'cause I'm home sick & I'm babying myself with toast & tea). I'm not nearly as dyslexic as that post would seem to indicate. I have the Li'l wayne cd by default, it was given to me by a disgusted mother at work.
@deadmandeadman - don't worry. I re-read what I wrote and cringed saying, lord, execessive typos and did you think I was dyslexic also?! I understood you though regardless not realizing whatever mistakes you think you made.
Wow, the CD was given to you? I understand a mother's disgust. I heard Lil Wayne has a *mouth* on him. I hope you feel better my friend! xoxo I am a tea drinker and hot chocolate drinker. I am not much of a coffee drinker. I guess I am missing out!?! xoxo
@deadmandeadman - ooh my : D
I am utterly opposed to facebook and myspace, I deleted my last fm 'cause it was time consuming, I avoid Twitter because it's over-hyped....that leaves MOG! It's the only one I have been faithful to. :)
I did not watch the Grammys. I can never be bothered to watch any award shows. Am I a snob?! :) hehehe I did just catch a video of MIA singing that night though, and she is So pregnant that it's just wrong!
@anna - agreed on twitter. It is a true time waster to the point that I can even admit that I was in the time waster hall of fame on twitter : D. I still love last.fm because I prefer scrobbing my music over there than over here because I don't like the feature of my entire music library being analyzed by MOG. I prefer sharing what I want to through *scrobbing* it on last.fm. But then again I prefer MOG for blogging than last.fm only because of how the community here on MOG is based on blogging. That is not the same on last.fm. I love the radio feature on last.fm too for I listen to last.fm's radio or the mashup between pandora and last.fm. I've discovered a lot of music that way. : D
MIA was supposed to have her baby on Sunday! The night of the Grammys!! I almost died when I read that : / She was brave to do her performance.
Myspace/Facebook I joined for reaching out to those musicians who still will not come over here to MOG and I have tried so much to get some over here. I truly have.
Thanks for reading, Anna! xxo
