....to see The Cure last week and to discover they really have still got something very very special. So cool to see older bands who still have the magic.
The last time I saw them was for the Disintegration tour and we were in a massive arena stuck up on the side. They were good, in fact the gig helped me get into the album, but the whole thing was a bit impersonal.
This time it was a much smaller crowd and we were able to get into the standing area at the front. I'm sure the energy there helped make this a stupendous gig. Why was it so good? They played a 3 hour set!! And they played it all with great conviction and energy. The time flew by. They played songs from every album. They finished with stuff from the first album and the live versions of those songs had more punk, more attitude, and more hook than a bucket full of US emo/punk bands. And what's more, they really seemed to be enjoying themselves :-)
I am so chuffed that they were so good. So chuffed in fact that I went out this week and bought up the fantastic digipack deluxe editions of the older albums to replace my vinyl.
If you haven't listened to The Cure for a while then dig them out. And if you haven't delved into the back catalogue then have a crack at Three Imaginary Boys.
Another revelation, was that I need a new phone. I swear the photo and video that everyone around me was getting looked sensational. Here's one of my shots; squint, and imagine it much bigger and clearer. Yes it is Robert Smith.
This is a song by my mate and I just thought I'd upload it for your listening pleasure. Some nice guitar and I just really love the line I put as the title.
