Billie...

You can have your Nina's, Sarah's, and even your Ella's - I'll take Billie all the way...It's midafternoon on Christmas Eve on this side of the world - The Turkey is smoking on the grill, the wine is mulling, and Billie is on the stereo...I think I've bottled happiness!Merry Christmas! (In case you hadn't noticed, I LOVE this time of year...)Did everyone contribute their "Orgasm for Peace"?

  2. deadmandeadman says ScottyB, it sounds like you found Shangri-La! And BILLIE HOLLIDAY is the perfect soundtrack. Her work with Ben Webster in the smaller combos have a different feel than the bulk of her recordings, more intimate, with some very languid (liquid?) performances. Good Call. MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU N YOURS

  3. ScottyB says You are spot on, mate...There is a reason she played with The Prez, The Hawk, & Ben Webster - She was hands down The Best...Though CrashPryor has a point insofar as the world would be a darker pace were it not for Sarah, Nina, Ella, and even Dinah...But if I had one jazz songstress to have with me on a deserted isle it would be Billie... Damn - Aren't we a couple of old fogies... Best to you & yours, lads...

  5. Terry Staunton says My favourite Billie recordings are probably Please Don't Talk About Me When I'm Gone, or Do Nothing 'Til You Hear From Me. However, I shall very soon play an entire album in your honour, while helping myself to a generous glass of a cheeky bourdeaux. My very best to you and yours.

  6. ScottyB says I'll be joining you in a glass of wine, though I'm still stuck very much in a Burgandy groove...I've been doing horizontals of New Zealand Pinot's for the last two weeks - I say it's because I needed to find something to drink with the Christmas Eve Turkey, but the reality is that I've become a bit infatuated...
