I put on my Santa Hat today, retreated to my thinking spot and pondered who my favorite new band of 2006 was. Now, I know that in my dotage I am not as adventerous as I once was in trying out new music and I've probably missed some gems, so I'm almost certainly going to slight some deserving band - but I'm going to live with that.So, without further ado, I give you my favorite new band of 2006: _The Kooks_. I don't think these guys are going to change music history or probably even become wildly popular, but I like them because they are an unpretentious bunch. They seem totally at peace; just happy to be putting their music out in the world to be enjoyed by people. As it is a happy, hoppy, jangly, joyous music I'm glad they put it out there...And it is a "versatile" album as well - I've listened to it from San Diego to Sydney and from Sunup to Sundown and everything in between. You can put it on as you are getting ready to go out or you can listen to it vegging in the backyard thinking about a Saturday afternoon nap...It invigorates and it suffuses you with a sense of fun and mischieviousness...Good Times...If you have an opportunity, I'd suggest you give it a whirl...Merry Christmas!
