It's an old story - something that has happened to all of us and is a staple of Hollywood movies (Think Donna Reed in _It's a Wonderful Life_ or Audrey Hepburn in _Sabrina_) - A buddy's younger sister, say 4-5 years younger & pleasant but at an ackward age - you head off to college and don't ever give her a second thought - 10 years later you come back to town for Christmas and run into your buddy and discover his sister who has blossomed into this gorgeous, witty, and sophisticated young lady who is working as a creative director at a small but up and coming advertising firm...I'm feeling that way about Los Lobos right now...I hadn't listened to them for years: I saw them open for the Grateful Dead at Laguna Seca in '87 or '88 and of course thought _La Bamba_ was a lot of fun, but they were really never a band I devoted much time to and stopped listening to them altogether over the next couple of years. I really hadn't even thought about them for probably 5 or 6 years when a buddy of mine suggested I pick up _The Town And The City_ a few days ago. I popped it in and - wow - here they are, all grown up and sounding fantastic: Still the same eclectic mix of musical styles, but polished and sounding more assured...Just great stuff - I can tell already I'm going to wear out my iPod on this album...
