So, last week's funk fell fantastically flat. See if you can dig Curtis Mayfield's uplifting message...

  3. Scotch says The brother had the Funk, for sure. I figured it was a good, uplifting song for the weekend. I need a lift, and Spring is coming. So in preparation for that, I'm trying to gain momentum to get out of my funk with Funk.

  4. Cody B says I said it before, and I'll probably say it again: Funk not only moves..It can remove Peace

  6. Cody B says Yeah Scotch..You'll see me quoting from the Book Of George (Clinton) quite often. If he had a church or a book, I'd probably be a follower..

  7. Scribes4life says I love Curtis Mayfield. He's just one of those artists who's music remains relevant despite the time

  8. Scotch says Cody - From the book of George 76:4 "Give the people what they want When they want And they wants it all the time" Throw down! ...Can I get a Hallelujah?! Amen, Scribes. And it doesn't have the anger that many new acts have. Anger only seems to breed anger, so I get weary of it.

  9. Scribes4life says one of my all-time favorites is "The Makings of You"... simply beautiful

  10. Scotch says Truly beautiful. For me, it falls in the same category as "What a Wonderful World". In this song, though, are the makings of many babies, no doubt. Of course we know it has the makings of a million songs - between this version and the Gladys Knight and the Pips version, there are so many good songs sampled from it, it's crazy. But that "Dozen Roses" track from Monica is by far the worst I've ever heard. Utter crap.

  11. Scribes4life says I haven't heard "Dozen Roses" but I'll be sure to stay away from it now. I think I know what you're sayin though... You get that "(Sitting On) The Dock of the Bay" feeling. Oh, Otis!

  12. Scotch says Yes, that feeling. I doubt I could think of more than 100 songs that fall into that category, and I'd have to work at it to get beyond 50. Those songs are precious - better than almost anything, because nothing short of love and friendship itself can touch one's soul as they do. Funny thing is, not all of them are so upbeat lyrically, if they even have lyrics. Some of the songs in my list aren't even sung in English, so it's kind of irrelevant, even if I do know what they are saying because I've read the translation.

  13. Scribes4life says Yeah, sometimes it's just a feeling. The record connects with you (dare I say spiritually) and you get transported out of the realm of worry, fear... reality to some ethereal place where closed eyes signify happiness, a smile is wealth, and a nodding head is love.

  14. Scotch says I couldn't hope to say it better myself. And there's no question in my mind that the connection I feel with the music is spiritual - it's too deep for anything else. At least that's what my meager human mind tells me. On your sentiment, I'm going to find one of those magical tracks in my collection and find sleep, knowing that slumber will be peaceful.
